Iowaron, anahi & lliyfan are shown here as they sort 500 bulbs for the Spring 2005 Lily Society Sale in Des Moines next weekend. It's a Flower & Garden Show from March 17 - 20 at the State Fairgrounds, but we're going to use it for an excuse for a mini-DG Round Up.
I'll be helping in the Lily Society booth on Saturday night and Sunday. What a great excuse to meet new gardeners and addict them to lillium! We'd love to invite other DGers to come & join us.
Iowa Lily Society Sale
WOW! That's a lot of bulbs! Makes me want to live in Iowa! Can't have enough lilies.
Deb
You will probably sell out in a hour ?
I hope not or I'll spend all day Sunday pointing at empty boxes!
Last year we sold out on Sat, and had to do some fancy footwork to have bulbs available for Sun.
Looking forward to my time in DsM among lily friends and DGers, doen it get any better than that?
Aren't we a cute little trio? Only things missing are the capes and poaching shovels (and Wanda!)! See everyone on Sunday! : ) Bev
I named the picture "The Rose between the thorns".
(Just teasing :-)
Iowaron
good one, Ron! That quick wit of yours is always on the surface, waiting..... Looks like a good time was had by all! I'm so jealous! Too far away for me, tho.
How far is that, Kooger? I'm coming from Nebraska!
We all know Moby can't resist a good party.... :)
Hey! I can't be there but I'd sure be willing to send someone some money to get me some new lily bulbs for my new home!!!!?????
How much money ya got?? ;)
4.5 hours. (Mind you, it's not too far for DH to go to S. MO for a jet boat, or to S. CA for a Nova. The man has his priorities all mixed up!)
ROFL Laura! I hear ya on that one.
Mary I got lots of money for lilies. If I send you $50 would you be willing to pick me out some bulbs and mail them to me? Maybe allow $7.85 for the flat rate priority box and the rest could be for bulbs. Send me an email if you're serious.
You let Moby spend your $$ Brave woman... Ask lilyfan, anahi or Iowaron for selection & to hold bulbs aside. They're on the committee and I'm merely a worker bee...
Moby sent me the list from Iowaron and she's got my want list.
Sure hope y'all having a great time playing with the bulbs and meeting new gardening friends. It's a gray day here in the high desert... all over the state, nothing coming down yet BUT it sure doesn't feel like go outside weather.
What a time we had at the Lily Society Sale! I made it my mission to talk all the passing potential gardeners to try one of our lily bulbs & sign up for our fall sale. Just LOVE getting those rookies "hooked' like us!
Moby came in from Lincoln, I came from Cedar Rapids, Llilyfan from Humeston plus anahi & Iowaron live in the area. Add a couple of spouses, food & beautiful flowers to buy--can there be a better way to spend a March day in Iowa???
Sounds like a lot of fun.... I can't think of a better way to spend a march day.... :)
A booth near us decided to mark down their lilies & we POUNCED! You could just about see the bulbs fly as we tossed them into bags. Now I'm facing a pile of bulbs that need to get into the ground....
Sounds like MORE fun!!! The pouncing part AND the planting ahead.....
The pouncing was one thing but you should have seen them all prancing around and giggling after the purchases! It was quite a site to see!
We want to see pics... lol... where were your cameras?
so glad that y'all had so much fun... and really glad that y'all shared it with us! how cool is that....
Here's the whole gang at the Iowa Flower, Lawn and Garden Show & Sale (March 20, 2005)
L-R Anahi, Wandasflowers, Iowaron, Moby, and Llilyfan.
This was one of the very few times the ladies paused long enough for a picture. The rest of the day was spent selling, buying, and talking with people about lilies. Their shopping sprees were awesome as they returned to our booth loaded down with purchases (lily bulbs) from different vendors in the Show. We spent a wonderful afternoon together, topped off with some barbecued ribs that were fall-off-the-bone tender and melt-in-your-mouth delicious! A perfect way to end our day's adventure. We eagerly anticipate the Iowa Round Up so we can all get together again with more great Dave's Gardening friends.
Iowaron
Here's Llilyfan (Sue) and Wanda providing extra glamorous attraction for our Lily Society sign. Both ladies are members of the Iowa Regional Lily Society and I am actively encouraging them to repeat their vaudeville routine at our next meeting in April. (with feather boas and large hats, etc :-)
Iowaron
Clapping enthusiatically! Wonderful pictures and a whole lotta fun... can't wait to see the feather boas and large hats... Y'all are just too cool...
'Twas a lovely day with lovely people ~
Sounds like you all had a grand time! Gosh I wish that our Garden Show was so good. DH & I went Sat. to the KC Home & Garden Show (my first time to go) and it sure left a lot to be desired for a gardener. Now if I were buying a new roof or new kitchen cabinets I would have been in hog heaven, but I was on a mission to find plants for my new 2-acres. Sigh.....that's ok --- I hope I come home loaded from IA and MO Round Ups.
I'm with you Brenda, our 'garden show' is like yours. IA was really fun. Lots of plants and things to plant, garden art, pottery... I'd rather drive the 200 miles for that than suffer though the boredom here.
Well, maybe I need to make the trek (aka pilgrimage) to Iowa a twice yearly thing!!! You all sure got it good up there. Be glad of it and grateful.
Love the pics Ron, but you have to get rid of that old brown-haired bat with the glasses. She'll scare away potential members! :) llilyfan is just a natural "Vanna", don't you think?
I spent last night burying my ill-gotten gains in a new lily nursery at the back of the yard. I'll need to rearrange a few things to get those lilies where they really belong....
From the Lily Society Booth I took home: Golden Sunburst Trumpet, Emerald Trumpet, Crimson Elegance (Oriental), Macarena (Oriental), Trinidad (Asiatic)
I bought some lilies at that near-by booth on Saturday, but added MORE on Sunday when the prices dropped thru the floor: Jetfire(Asiatic), White Tiger (to add to my 5 other tiger lily colors), Rubrum species, Royal Love (LA), Aphrodite (pink double asiatic), Fata Morgana (yellow double asiatic), Arena (Oriental), and Royal Surprise (LA). (Had to grab all these fast before Moby, llilyfan or anahi knocked them out of my hands!!!!)
Sue also brought me some lilies we bought together on line: Contrast (orienpet), Albany (Orienpet), Dizzy (Oriental), Manhattan (LA), l. cernum Album (species), & l. Martagon (species)
Well, THAT's not bad enough! When I stopped into buy more metal garden stakes from my favorite garden store, I saw & snatched up Menorca (LA) and Samur (LA) really cheap at a big bulb for $1.50 each!!!
Can we say "LILY FEVER"?????
I think she 's got it!
Truly had a great day and was so happy to meet Moby live!
Yes we topped the day at a resturant with soime really great ribs, but then Ron has already mentioned that hasn't he!
I think Wanda is tyring to dismiss the wrong hostess! We had to take 3 pictures just to get me 'right' in one of them! Isn't that smile of hers contagious!
Sue--I think Ron just wanted to take lots of photos so he can use them for blackmail in the future..... Just think what a great faux Naked Lady pic we could take with that huge sign. We could be wearing granny gowns and still do it! (Evil scheming grin...)
By golly Wanda is most certainly hooked! LOL
You all had such a blast. I absolutely cannot wait until the Round Up to finally meet this cast of characters!
CHARACTERS IS THE KEY WORD ?
That was a...uhhhh... a carefully chosen word.
LOL... Y'all are some very interesting "characters"... i love it...
LOL at Brenda
Characters? As in a farce? Sometimes life feels like that! Actually, I'm rather muted in a crowd. We'll let Moby do the entertainment. Fan Dance, dear? (And I'm still laughing over the "c" joke....)
And I'm still laughing at you laughing..... ;)
