Can Crepe myrtle be rooted

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

By either cuttings or air layering. I had someone ask me about this and I really dont know. I know they grow pretty easily from seed, but this friend wants to try to root some from a plant he already has.
Thanks for any info.

Hi, Davencat. Your answer is YES. They can most definately be propogated from cuttings!!

Cool Beans! Thanks Randy, I know my friend will be really glad to hear that. Cool.

Absolutely!! Your welcome. Patience, because the cuttings can take about 90-120 days to root.

Wow, I knew it would take a while. Is it better to put them in soil and keep em moist or does water work just as well.

I've always use seed starting mix and kept them moist...never tried water. Don't use branches with lots of leaves...there are no roots to support feeding heavy leaf cover.

I've always used small pieces with just a few leaves.
