Walmart has a few varieties of waterlilies and some other pond plants for 4.98 each. I got me Arc-en-Ciel and a Souix. The Souix is great for a small pond or whiskey barrel and the Arc-en-Ceil has green and pink variegated leaves. Actually this year Wallyworld has a huge variety of packaged bulbs and such. Extra fancy caladiums with large bulbs and some pretty cannas like Madame Butterfly.
5.00 Waterlilies
You are so lucky. I called our walmart and they have no waterlilies at all yet. What a great price. I will keep checking back at our walmart. Thanks for the info. I see you are in TN, maybe the reason why you have them at your store and I dont is because you are a warmer zone.
But they are hardy in your zone. Maybe they just have'nt put them out. I saw someone on E-Bay selling waterlilies from Walmart but not for 5.00 You can oder from Walmart online, maybe they have them.
We don't have them at our walmart either I will check online.
Thanks for the info.
I bought some water plants in a box from Wal-mart last year. I wasn't impressed by the size or quality of the plant. Maybe I didn't do things right but even by the end of the year they didn't do very well. Good luck with your plants. I am sure you will do better than I did.
I checked online at walmart yesterday....they don't have the waterlilies on thier website either. I'm looking at my local walmart today. But I'm guessing they won't have them either. It's a smaller store, and they don't ever have the selection as other stores. Jenny
It really depends on when you buy them. Right when they arrive I usually have good results. The WL tubers I got were bigger and better than they felt when I checked them out. They already had leaves. Those collection in the boxes are OK if you open them and check everything out.
Jenny, I probably have some WL to trade for perennials.

shadowgirl, you have mail. ;o) Jenny
Jenny where is moscow tennessee? How far are you from Chattanooga?
oops, I'm in Indiana. :) Jenny
Moscow is 40 miles east of Memphis. So Chattanooga is pretty far. Tennessee is such a wide state, it takes all day to cross it.
Shadowgirl. yes the water lilies are in my zone. But I went to walmart and lowes and they have very little supplies even for water plants. Infact they had no water plants at all yet. I started many lotus, lilies inside in a fish aquarium. I guess I will have to just work on these until I get some other adults. :)
Shadowgirl
We have them at our walmart now but not the ones you metioned just generic ones and one called Colorado which is sold out now and james brydon. Then they have no name-pink,yellow,white waterlilies.
Our walmart carries them. I'm in zone 5 and we don't get them as early as the warmer zones. Here, they are not out yet. The ones that we get are all hardies. I've purchased them and all in all have been pleased. They don't have a big variety and the tubers are small but they will do great and bloom the first year.
They are not always labeled correctly. Seems like the pink is always white, but the rest of them seem to be ok. Last year they had colorado which is one of the fastest bloomers and growers that I have seen, if you want a lot of "wow" look for that one. This is my Walmart Arc en ceil in it's first year:
Wow those are pretty! My sis got Colorado the last two and she is suppost to give one.
She said the tubers were so big when she open them up today that they barely fit in the basket. So I hope she doesn't change her mind and keep them both.
cceamore, tell her to give you half and then put the rest in a bigger container. The pot that Walmart gives you is not big enough for any kind of water lily especially a Colorado, they are monsters. I use plastic containers that are the size of a half bushel. If you don't have room for a pot that size try to use at least a two gallon size. It does not have to be very tall but the wider it is, the better. A lot of people use those black oil pans from the dollar stores.
OK
Branka:
You seem to have a lot of plants. Did they divide that much? How much did they divide?
mournlight, they do the best for me planted in large containers in garden clay. In the spring I pull up the pots and get divisions. I only have about 8 different waterlilies. Some are more vigorous than others. Out of all my lililes Colorado blooms first, grows the fastest, has multiple blooms, and always makes lots of divisions. If I could only have one, I would more than likely pick Colorado because it's my best bloomer.
FYI,
I was surprised when I saw a whole display in Lowe's the other day. They had papyrus, lilies, water plants. water-cleaner-plants, ( I think). Anyway a lot of stuff. Check yours..
For some reason it was not out in the open because I just happed to stumble upon it.

Shadowgirl, My walmart got the water lilies in and I bought 4 of them! I bought 2 red, 1yellow and 1 white lilies. I also bought a water canna and sweet flag. Thanks so much for the heads up on the lilies. :)
Oh Pinky, that is excellent! It is always so nice to find a good deal every now and then. The Arc en Ciel I bought has leaves floating now and this one is true to name. If your Walmart has this one you need it. The lily pads are variegated green and pink, very unusual.
I found the Arc en Ceil and Colorado at a Walmart SuperCenter not to far from here. Our small local Walmart doesn't have them, but the larger store did. :o) I'm hoping to get them in the pond today! Jenny
Hey Shadowgirl,
I will be going back to walmart in a few days to get the Arc En Ceil. :) They didnt have that one when I went to walmart last time. I know because we bought the only types that they had. :)
Jenny_tulip, Are the colorado pink with yellow centers? If so, I have had that one for a few years. Here is mine that I think maybe a Colorado.

Pinky, the pic on the box looked a bit more orangish...but it could just be the pic. Heck, they didn't even show the arc en ceil as being variegated.....just showed it as a plain ole white water lily. If you didn't know the name to look for, you wouldn't think there was anything special about it. I'm anxious for them to both start growing! Jenny
i brought arc en ceil, colorado, and sioux from walmart this weekend. i open the boxes today and one of the bulbs has mold. i wandering if i should return it or will it be okay? thanks, belinda
I put mine in the pond tonight. One of them also had a bit of mold. I just kinda wiped it off.....the bulb looked ok, and didn't feel squishy. So I'm hoping it will be ok. I figure for $5, I can at least try it. I did keep the packaging though....just incase.
Pinky, I looked at my Colorado closer....and the package says Salmon Pink. :o) Jenny
You can just cut the mold off or scrape it off like jennyt did. It should be fine as long as the part with eye on it is firm.
Well I am not sure what my pink picture of my lily is called then. But it blooms real well. The 4 that I bought have leaves on all of them including the cannas. The only thing that I bought at Wal-Mart that has not sprouted is the sweet flag. I did read on the package that you can return any that you are not satisfied with to the addy on the box. Within so many days you can return it to the store if there is a problem. I would be willing to make a bet that if we fertilize them well that they will all do great. Can not wait for all of the picks posted. :)
Pinky, I bought the same stuff at Walmart as you - mine was boxed and came with the canna, two lilies, and sweet flag. The only thing that hasn't sprouted yet for me is the Sweet Flag! Maybe it's just slow?
Think I'll go back and look for the Arc En Ceil.
Pixydish (been watching this thread but had nothing to contribute until now.)
The Arc en Ceil's flower is'nt anything special. I think most people grow it for the foliage.
Pixydish, I will be going back too for some more nice lilies. :) Oh this is great fun to get a deal. :)
Yes, it is! I have to be careful not to buy too many! I don't even know how they will do in my pond yet, since my pond is still a hole in the ground! I have mine planted in plastic lined pots, to be transferred later! But I can't pass up the chance to get a great deal on beautiful plants.
yes me too for the great deals. We have 2 ponds and they will be full by the time I leave walmart this time. :)
I thought that I would also add in this link for seeds for postage on Victoria's. They are beautiful. http://www.victoria-adventure.org/victoria/seed_request.html
I just got my seeds for postage and starting them now. The site above also has tropical water lily seed for postage. I have done both and they are nice people and very helpful.
Ya'll sound like me. Last year I kept all my WL in a kiddie pond. This year just wait until I pot my pics. lol
Pinky, did your sweetflag every come up? I just realized I had potted mine and put it in the water container with the lilies and rushes, waiting for the pond. I had it planted underwater. I thought this might be the problem so I checked and the little leaf it had started when I bought it had rotted. Maybe it's just a marginal and doesn't need to have the crown under water? I repotted it and now we'll see. Fortunately the root was still firm and roots were forming. How's yours doing?
If I dont' hurry up and finish this pond, I'll have to buy another 'temporary home' for all these water plants!
