I just read this in a seed starting book- to prevent damping off:
"Always use a high quality seed starting mix. Drench the mix with a solution of 1 tablespoon clove oil (available at pharmacies)
and a drop of liquid dishwashing detergent in 1 gallon of water. (Scientists recently discovered that clove oil suppresses damping-off fungi.)"
Has anyone tried this?
Clove Oil
Never tried clove oil (don;t think I could stand the smell).....I myself use a spray bottle filled with 1/2 stength Chamomile tea.
that seems a lot easier, Marc. Thanks, I'll have to try it!
It really works.....I just lightly spray my seedlings everyother day or so and have little to no damp-off.
Good luck! :-)
Marc
here's a really good article about damping off diseases by Tom Clothier. Chamomile tea is one of his preventatives too. Another is a one-time sprinkling of cinnamon on the soil surface. I tried that this year. So far so good, and it smells nice too.
