No
Estuary
I just thought I'd update you Ginny in case you hadn't heard. The council voted unanimously against the rezoning of the property next to the estuary. It will be interesting to see how things unfold in the future.
This means it hasn't been rezoned to parkland either, right, Sandy?
Yes, that's right Shannon. There were 3 nights of public hearings before the council voted. A number of people talked about how nice it would be if the site could become a park but the native band is very angry about the fact that the majority of the people wanted the council to say no. The band chief said they're still going to get the land and it will never become a park. We're all a bit worried about what the alternative to Walmart might be.
I heard the Nature Conservancy is talking to current owner of the land (a timber company). Suppose there will soon be another fund drive as there was some years ago to save the Abkhazi Gardens.
Didn't hear anything about fund raising to acquire Sooke Potholes though.
Latest thing I've heard (via The Tyee) is that the local Band is determined to have the estuary lands, if not for Walmart, then to build a housing development there. True or False?
Inanda - up early to cut lily stems for NALS
Yes, I believe that is true.
Bringing this up again. What is happening at the mo, Nightowl? Kiddos say the council has to vote again in the next couple of weeks???
