I need your help to set up the guidelines. I want to do a picture contest, pictures of spring!! And then we can all vote on the best depiction. But........................... when is spring for all of you? How late should we have it last so everyone gets a chance to submit their favotite photos? When will spring come to your area?
Contest to be!! Spring is Here, Yahoo!!!
well kell flowers do not start blooming very early here, if you want blooms, so may have to pass this one up
You probably can't wait for us--it is not until May! I don't know if I am going to make it this year, I feel a break down coming on! lol
What is your beautiful picture Kell?
mine is now so it may be too late if you wait too long.
Gee Kell this is nice , but maybe it should just be for the warmer zones and maybe you could do one later for us frigid ones, Ha!!
Bonnie
Hmmmmm.... Looks like we have a winner, Kell... It is a beautiful picture. :)
That is a beautiful picture. It is hard not to get spring fever when you have something like that blooming. We have a few daffodils and the tulip magnolias are starting to bloom, won't be long now. But it is always possible that by this time next week it will be bitterly cold. I always have to be careful and not jump the gun this time of year. Otherwise I will be out there schlepping plants back in or mulching like crazy.
Hi Kell, I have some early bloomers now but not much. I think you should be able to do the contest now as many will be able to contribute. For those who can't I'm sure they understand and will most likely enjoy seeing some Spring photo's. I think a week running would be enough time. I'm not sure how you have run these in the past hope too see some Great pics.....
I had little bulbs sticking their little heads out and snack SNOW then again yesterday MORE SNOW, now their saying another storm expected Monday or Tuesday. So at this point who knows when my spring will come. And I never trust the month of March here . But would enjoy see other pic's, it give's us something to look forward to. And that picture you posted is beautiful, what is that?

Very Pretty
Only a few dafodils open here, we have a late spring too. Late April, so us colder climates bay have to just sit this one out & drool at your spring pics!
Loved seeing everyones' pics. Maybe we aren't too far from spring. I'm ready!
Beautiful pictures. Keep them coming. LOL
We're definately starting spring here, crocuses, snowdrops, camellias, daffodils are blooming and some tulips are thinking about it. Many of the flowering ornamental fruit trees are almost in full bloom. We have an annual flower count this week, mostly for publicity and tourism, so the numbers may or not be trusted. I don't have the final count, but my Wed, it was over 4Billion. Last year the total week was something like 1.4 B, so spring is early here this year.
Linda in Victoria.(BC Canada)
I was talking to Scoot and she thought a way to solve the problem was to have 1 contest but to hold it in April. That way us early people can take our pictures now and save them. And then those still draped in snow, can take them as their area warms up. WHAT DO YOU THINK??? Or will the fun be gone for the the early spring people having to wait to post their pictures??
Great pictures everyone!! I do not remember seeing Gloria's yard before!!! It looks beautiful!!
Pam, it is Robinia hispida, a locust, I do believe. It is gorgeous.
Back in Washingon State last week, the anxious little green and red buds on the alder and maples said SPRING to me... and the bulbs ooooching out of the ground looking for warmth.... Such a feeling of renewal. That says Spring to me even more than a tree in flower!!!
But then, that's me.
Can't wait to see the photos!
Carol
So take some pics Carol!! Any pic that says spring to you goes!! They sound great.
Hiya Kell. I'm glad you asked this Q as I've always been curious how big of a jump most other gardeners get on me here in Kansas. I can't give you a date but I can give you a vague idea of where we are spring wise via what plants are doing what.
It seems like daffodils are the 1st bloomers I see around here. Mine have yet to even break ground yet BUT I have seen 2 yards around town where the Daffodil spikes are maybe 4 inches above ground. I'd bet mine will break the surface in the next week or 2. They sure better as winter depression is getting the best of me;).
This is the time of year where I break out all of my seed flats and clean them up for seeds. I should be soaking seeds right now but I'm behind schedule and I haven't a clue where I'll put all the seed flat and flouro lamps yet. I'll make room somehow, I always do.
I'll also be taking cuttings off of everything I keep indoors over winter this week. This keeps my wife from breaking he bank when it is warm enough to begin planting! LOL Over the last 3 years since I've began growing out more seedlings and cuttings than I normally have, I figured I'm saving atleast 500$ to 700$ in the months of April and June alone! Now if I could only produce my own cypress mulch, I could really save some money!!!Depending on the prices(the last 2 years its been cheaper buying it by the bag rather than truckload), I know we bought atleast 50 bags of it. It makes me sick saying it!
Shoot, I'm off an yet another tangent that has nothing to do with the topic and onto yet another marathon post. When will I learn?LOL Thanks all.
JD
So pretty Thinkdirt, I love that color. JD, good work! I need you to start making plants for me too!
LOL
Frogs, are you sure that is Tropical Sunset? You must be in 7th heaven with all those blooms. I think I am in brug lust.
Got it from Brugie so I assume my source is good. Lol. It has been cool and rainy so that may account for the light color. Butterfly is also very pale in this weather.
Kell, I have seen pics of all your brugs. I think it as gone beyond lust for you and is full fledged passion.
Wow, really?

Oh Kell, your Tropical Sunset is Beautiful!!! (hint, lol)
And WillowWasp I love the Calla's
Janice, that doesn't look like my Tropical Sunset. I have no idea what it is, but I do like the shape of the flower. Were those the plants that Arlene brought out to California? I wonder if it could be one of hers.
Dee, your photo is lovely! What are they??
those are "White Calla Lillys" and they are just beautiful. I really like them and they are all blooming now.........Hope to get more pictures tomorrow. I think spring has arrived on the Coast of Texas...
