Turning lawn into garden

Inanda the best way to make new plants of Camellias (and maybe Rhodies) is to lay the branch on the ground, scrape the bark where it touches the dirt and place a brick on top.

Well, guess we could do some layering when we are there. I'd have to pick them up a year later, wouldn't I. Was thinking people might want them for cuttings during RU. Pam, do you mean it is difficult to start from cuttings?

Bed will eventually look just like the rest of the back yard. Did this a couple of years ago with another back yard and now you would never know. The lilies know though. they just love 4 way mix.

I've heard from weeds that it is difficult and a DG'er from Georgia said that layering was the only way to do it (she said her Grandma's methold was to scrape off the bark where you wanted it to root.

edited to say I found it:

In Georgia, USA, we have a lot of Camellias and the easiest way I have rooted them is to take a low branch and scrape the underside and place it in the soil with a brick or stone on top of the branch till it takes root. That is the way my grandmother always did hers. May want to give it a try. LOL
Beautiful pictures!

OK. We'll do some. My only prob. might be that my son-in-law will see this untidy branch on the ground and chop it off to tody it up. I'll have to put a flag or something on it so he will remember to leave them alone.
