Desert Wildflowers

Modi'in, Israel

yep, a pity. But I don't have a camera anyway ;-) ROTFL.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

oh rats ;-(

Modi'in, Israel

LOL, well, I'll have one eventually. Been IDing so many wild flowers around here lately. I sure wish I could share themw ith you all. But many of them should be around until the end of April, so there's still a chance my camera will be operational before the flowers are all gone :-)

Just looked through my March 2005 Arizona Highways. The photos of the wildflowers were amazing. Waaaa! I wish i could have gone there this year on this vacation week. The mallows I mentioned were globemallows and the poppies that I always called California poppies are called Mexican Goldpoppies.

You can see the cover here:

I've always loved that magazine,too.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

When I lived back in New York I coveted those Hwy Mags, or maybe I should say hoarded. ;)

This beauty was along the road from 29 Palms to Parker.

Julie I am so sorry 'bout your camera. I make poor headway where the traffic is sparse, parking abundant, flowers amazing. This is just another lupine. I keep trying I'll get it 'right' -- Hi John, there will be more. /;-)

Good, Blooms. Any signs of spring around Moab yet?

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Only the fact that the temps are in the high 50's and the daffys are 7 inches tall and there are lef buds on the roses.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

About the same here but, I do have one daff bloom. Lotsa stuff w/ swollen buds about to pop. Silver maple has flowers.

Modi'in, Israel

Thanks Blooms :-). I'm waiting for my wild Lupines to open up too. I haven't see the flowers, but I'm told they'll be a brilliant blue. :-) I've got another kind of Lupine that the GC calls the "cultivated one" as opposed to the native wild one that grows all over the Jerusalem mountains...dunno what color those will be. I'll just have to wait and see. The "wild" one sure has soft soft soft leaves! :-)

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

These wild ones run more to bluer than just above, but lighting plays a big role in what color purple you get in the photographs.

Modi'in, Israel

Here the common name for Lupines is 'thermos flower'. I haven't figured out why yet...

Blooms...I hope you put these shots in the PF....the photography is awsome and would add so much to the database.

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

Wow! I must spend more time in this forum. I haven't been here for a while so what a pleasure to come in and find all these new threads. Your pictures are beautiful! How I'd love to have been on this trip with you!

Mel's right, many of these plants are in the database with NO pictures. Yours would definitely do us proud!

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

I'd lost track of this, will start looking them up later tonite. Thing is I'm ignorant of proper names so it will take a while, still I'll give it a shot. k? ~Blooms

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Can Spin help with that?

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Smarty! I was thinking of that. She arrived back from her trip to China yesterday and dropped from exhaustion. It will be a while. ;-)

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Not the time to rest. There is work to be done!

Modi'in, Israel

Sheesh, where the heck have I been? I didn't even know Spin WENT on a trip to China. I'd noticed she was glaringly absent around here, but I thought she was just busy with work or whatever.

Just found this and love your shots.

AHA! just found what's going to be one of my favorite forums. This garden has some of the neatest nooks & crannies!
How are the wildflowers holding up in Utah? We just had our first 90+ degree F day on Thursday and it's been climbing steadily since. 99 yesterday and should make it to 100 today. With no rain I'm afraid this glorious season will be over any moment.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Angele, I posted them in the photos forum. guess I should identify them properly and show them here... not the same pics just some of the same plants.... trouble is there in full display and I'm leavng for NY, as I said somewhere else.

Tnx for posting here. ~Blooms

Good idea, Blooms. We need to keep this forum active.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Where are you? Have not heard from you in awhile. Are you back from NY or what?

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Yea, Blooms, where are you?

Arroyo Grande, CA

It looks like she is busy taking pictures.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Hi guys, I missed the heavy spring flush by leaving for NY. I've been back since the 1st but haven't been chasing wildflowers,, have been busy with a remodeling project / both kitchen and bath. LOL however there was a sunset to blow yer mind last nite and I'll be posting the pics in PHotos first thing tomorrow.

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

I so much enjoyed the desert blooming pix you shared in this thread. Thanks so much. Buttoneer (in PA)

Prineville, OR(Zone 6a)

I was fortunate enough to have lived in AZ during the spring of 1998. It was the year of the '50-Year' bloom due to the very wet winter that preceded. The desert hills were a virtual artist's pallette. It was magnificent! Reminded me of the photos you see of Namaqualand in South Africa at peak bloom. A most incredible sight indeed.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

There are almost NO flowers in the desert this year. Well for sure not around the Moab area. one here or there, but no fields and fields. And my friend who lives down where these were taken says there were no flowers there to find this year.

Just glad I got these when I could. And I hunt for them - here's a shot of a cliffrose shrub that seemed to be carrying double blooms.
Hmmpf... can't add pics after on edit.... silly me.

Siskiyou, I was there for Spring 1998, too!! :) We are a lucky group, eh?

Same here Blooms, there are roadside flowers but other than that really nothing, last year was amazing though. I was in New Mexico for 1998 & don't remember anything special here.
This year I'm watching birds :)

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

I am a birder, what do you see?

Hi boojum, I'm brand new to watching but here's a link to a thread where I posted a list http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/594083/ The list is at May 12 - 7:24 a.m.

Prineville, OR(Zone 6a)

Hey, boojum, we are a lucky group indeed. Did anyone here get to witness the bloom of 2005 in Death Valley? I would have given an eye tooth to have been there.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Nope from me. But I sure heard about it!

Prineville, OR(Zone 6a)

boojum, keep hearing about the flooding in the NE on the news. Are you affected at all?
Send some to us. It's hot 'n dry here.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Nope. I live in northwestern MA and it's NH and northeastern MA that got the worst. Of course, it has been raining since last Thursday and predicted to continue non-stop till Sunday and then on and off the next week!! You should see my grass! The gardens are getting lost behind the grass. I'll send it west for you.
