When you say we have to wait for it to bloom, how long do you mean?
Color needed for deep shade
Well, I'm in the El Paso area for work this week so I can't say for sure if the ferns have come up yet...I can tell you they still were not up when I left on Monday. Wayside is also ignoring my emails. I told them if they were really interested in customer service they would find out what is causing all the problems and take preventive measures. My contact said she was going to forward my concern to the quality department - never heard from them. I also emailed back and asked for a direct contact in the quality department but never received a response.
I just mean that they bloom in late summer or early fall, and the buds are on the plant for what seems like an eternity before they open.
I ordered "Petticoat" ferns from deeproots' nursery. They were fantastic and he is one of our authorized dealers. You just couldn't do better! I love that Japanese Painted fern so I'm going to order those with my order this year.

I haven't gone back and re-read the whole thread but I don't think anyone has mentioned elephant ears. They are great for shade and look terrific hovering over colias, ferns, hostas, caladiums, begonias and impatiens.
Trunnels - I love the look of the black variety, especially when a little green is mixed into it. Have a spot for it, but not enough cash.
Ivy, go to the plant swap forum and ask for one. If you don't have anything to trade, then see if anyone will send you one for postage......
Check out the new co-op. These plants will certainly liven up some deep shade. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/502309/
Wow! Thanks Woodspirit1. I will certainly go and take a look at plant swap. I don't know how to trade, but would be interested in learning.
All you have to do is look at what folks have to swap and ask for one. Or you can post what you want and perhaps someone will have it.
You can also go to the "my info" tab and it has a place for you to post your haves and wants. That way, when someone is willing to make a trade for something you want, they can check your list to see what you have. so cool!
I love Dave's! It is so great that they have something like this!
I don't think I'm ready yet, but I did go on Dave's FAQ yesterday and I found out how to send plants through the mail. I think I'll float around and watch for a bit before I make any trades.
