I have old tree trunks, and I'm presently digging out the soil, a section at-a-time, adding peat moss, and refilling. Any ideas on how I can keep the plants alive? The second section has a big root at the bottom. So far, I planted regular and chocolate mint, with a rose bush in section 1; tansy, german cellery, and sage in section 2. That's not half of the trunk yet. Can someone help or advise on how to keep the plants growing. We have cold, windy, -34+ winters?
