New hybrid 'King of Orange'

Crumpler, WV

This is a picture of a seedling that I grew this past summer from one of my crosses. The original name I had given it was already in use, so it now has the name 'King of Orange' I hope it retains its color this coming summer, if it does it will be a registered brug.

Lookin REGAL Good, D wv. Forgive my pun...I couldn't resist. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the color remains true for you this second season. I've not seen a brug w/ such even clarity in the orange color range before. This is Great !

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

This is the first time I am really using my new visibone web color chart...
Would those of you that have one say it is in the 255,74,0 to 240,83,47 range?
More of an orange with blue tones?
I am trying to see if I am seeing the same thing on my monitor as others are seeing!
Thanks,
Margie

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Shoot, I put my chart away until mine start blooming again and it is burried in one of my rubbermaid tubs. Can't help ya Margie!!

Said it before, and I'll say it again - this is a beautiful orange brug, David! The cutting you sent me to evaluate is growing nice and healthy - can't wait to see those blooms!! Thanks again! I'll also make sure to re-tag mine so that it reflects it's new name.

Crumpler, WV

Thanks for all of the wonderful comments guys, I'll try to answer everyones questions, but I have to clear up a name issue about this brug. I thought that I had a pretty good understanding of the ISHS/ICRA rules when I gave this brug the name 'King of Orange', but the name in its present form is invalid. So to have the name in a appropriate form I am naming it 'Orange King'

Sorry Carter, but you are going to have to re-tag it again! ;) LOL

OK now the questions.

1) It has a wonderful fragrance, very strong early in the evening.

2) The parents are: Tropical Sunset x Whiskers

3) I don't know if the blooms really opened well at night. At the time that this brug was blooming my mother was very ill in the hospital and the day that I took this pic we were having my mothers wake.

4) I live in zone 6, in the southern mountains of WV. We VERY RARELY hit 90 degrees, normally in the 80's but have the humidity.

5) Margie, I just checked my color chart and from the best that I can remember from seeing the bloom in real life, the numbers you mentioned are just about right on!

6) Two people have cuttings for evauluation purposes, the are Carter and Shannon Firehammers. I am presently trying to root one for a VERY special friend. Let's hope that it keeps its color and holds up well so that I can give the ok to release it.

7) Also, some of its siblings show some promise for another 2-3 keepers, but we'll have to wait and see.

Thanks again,

David

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Brugie, do you mean for Dave's to be back in business?? Shoot, I thought it was an Arky thing...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sherry, notice that there are only a handful of posts for the whole day. Not, not just an Arky thing. LOL! I got some work done today. Daves needs to go down one day a week. Just kidding.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Shoot, Brugie, I even had dinner ready on time!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

LOL! I didn't even fix dinner. Jim had a bowl of leftover chili.
