Bear like Brugs too

RICHMOND, VA(Zone 7b)

WOW! I'll never complain about the chipmunks again!
What a sight!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

LOLOL Richard! I think I'd be scared of him too. He's meaner looking then my bears. :)
Julie banging a metal pan and spoon and hollering on the top of your lungs will usually scare them back into the woods, of course anyone driving by the house thinks I'm nuts.
Jo I tried to have them here when you came but they just didn't listen.
8ft they have been known to leave presents in the yard. We walk carefully in the summertime but there's no fear of not seeing it. LOL

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

snowhermit...beautiful sight...but glad to see it at a distance!! You photo made photo of the day! Congratulations!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Richard, that is too funny. LOL!

There is nothing like a mine field in the flower bed/yard. Our neighbors dogs usually take care of our place for us. No fun!

barrington, IL(Zone 5a)

when my dh & i lived in the northern wisconsin woods if i made bacon for breakfast i could guarantee you a bear sighting that evening. the 1st time we realized that we had bears was when i surprised a big brute in our garbage out back. another time i was letting out my dog in the morning & there was the bear. well, of course the dog went crazy and crashed through the screen door and chased the bear around the house with me making up the third runner. my dh was in front of the house just smelling the nice clean fresh air when all of a sudden here comes the bear, the dog, and me all high-footing it up to the hill. i finally convinced the dog to return, thank goodness. we used to love seeing the bears because it's a completely differen feeling seeing them in the wild than seeing them in captivity.

Gratiot, WI(Zone 5b)

Here in Southern Wisconsin the closet I've come to seeing anything as large as a bear is a coyote and that looked down right nasty (mean).

Nicksgrammy, the next question is, did your husband join in on the chase, run for the house, or just flat out faint?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Very funny lol! It must have been a sight to see!

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

;;Snowhermit, great pictures. I am happy just to see your photos and not have them in my yard/ Donna

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Snowhermit, we have bears here in No. CA. but they are not as peaceful as yours, they are very destructive. I have fruit trees & they all but destroy them every summer if I don't take drastic measures to thwart them from getting to them. Rat traps wired to the trunks & set. Carpet tack strip on the ground around the under side of the tree. These have worked the best. (The tack strip has also kept the cats out of my flower beds too.) Fences just get pulled down unless they are hooked to 220! (Just kidding, no elect. fences here yet.) But they do destroy fences to get to what they want.
So far they don't come too close to the house because I have a yard dog Your pictures are great, I can see they visit in the day time too. How lovely to always be watching your back! Bj

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Rich, you're too funny. LOL

Nicksgranny, I bet that was a sight to see.

Shirley, I know about the neighbors dogs leaving you presents. LOL What upsets me is I have some winter sown seeds covered in clear plastic and the choc. lab walks on top of my plastic and does her business on my plastic.

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Ahelms, you need to put up one of those sign, like a headstone, on a mound in your yard...

Here he lies all cold & hard
The last dog that sh*# in my yard!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Too funny, BJ

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Love that pic Richard. is to funny

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

LOL! That might get the neighbors attention. A few years ago, Ada, one of them took a liking to a clump of rhubarb. Now that was gross and I didn't touch it that year. The rhubarb has been moved to a raised bed now and they don't seem to go up there.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Shirley, I understand completely. LOL A few years ago, there was two dobermans who would come up and dig about two feet under the bushes I had in front. I don't know what they were after. Then they pooped in top of my azaleas everytime they came here. I don't know what happened to them but "good riddance". LOL

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Yikes! Too close for my comfort!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

LOLOL Nicksgrammy. That must have been some sight.
Love the sign idea BJ. Too funny and a good conversation piece.
After reading these posts I think I'll be happy with just the couple of presents the bear have left in my yard. So far they haven't been in the rhubarb patch. Poor Brugie. LOL

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

lol Shirley that would have been some kind of Rhubarb pie

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I did try to remove it from the plant....but no way would we have eaten the rhubarb. It doesn't even sound good now after talking about it. LOL!

Gratiot, WI(Zone 5b)

Rhubear Pie? That sounds Awful LOL

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

WOW!!! That's so awesome! I'm really jealous! We're supossed to have bears in Maryland but all I've ever seen was tracks and that was once.

Alot of people would shoot at first site, it's good to hear that you're tolerant of them.

Six Mile, SC(Zone 7b)

Enjoyed your pics Snow. Pete

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

When shooting bear, is always wise to do a thorough job, too small a bore and you just irritate him and an irritated bear is a sight to behold. LOL

Great pics, not so comfortable about having to watch back in own yard, audacious of him to nap right next to the porch.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Great beat pictures! Best to view them through the eye of a camera than close-up and personal!

Syracuse, NY

i like bears too but do have respect for them Judt north of me in the adirondicks there are quite a few. Bob

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Bringing back up for SherryLike.

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

You've got to be kidding, how do you run outside late at night to take after dark pictures? How do you go check the bunnies and water a brug or two? how do you load your rabbits for a long trip at 2 am???? ok I'll take my possoms and armadillos and raccoons you can have the bears. Well, would you like the armadillos? they do tear up the yard, I'll send you some for the bears, they are kinda like oysters on the half shell, they have the shell with a rooting problem.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Great thread Terry, thanks for bringing it back up!!! Do the bears join you in the summer too?? We have bears in Arky and some on our own property, but I've never seen them. Much smaller than yours. Occasionally one will drift into a neighborhood and people go nutz, but I've never heard that they've done any damage. If you have any current photos, PLEASE post them!!!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

I cannot even begin to imagine a bear in my yard.....lol. I suppose Terry is so use to it that she thinks nothing of it.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

they look so lovable my sister in minne. had them in yard on deck like was there yard.. they do destroy things is right.. they got real good pictures of them .. sweet.. good pictures..

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

what a thrill..... Terry, great photos, and I enjoyed reading all the snippets from others who have had experience with various wildlife.....i used to get squirrells, but boy, seeing a bear, that takes the cake......and having them just come into your backyrd as if they were part of the family. priceless....
thanks for the warm fuzzy feeling this morning....
