Bear like Brugs too

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

This guy lurked around the yard all last summer.
He's one of three that I saw walking through the gardens during the summer.
I never did get to smell any of the Brugs after dark when their scent was the strongest as I sure didn't want to run into one of them in the dark. LOL

That would be just a little too close for me. Makes me have chills right now thinking what damage one of those could do to a human or pets.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Oh man! I'd have the double barreled shotgun loaded and ready, don't need them in your yard. I suppose you are not allowed to shoot them?

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

We can't shoot them Gloria unless they are in the act of doing bodily harm to a domestic animal or us.
We've learned to live with them through the years and actually enjoy seeing them now.
I just stay in the house at night and give them free reins of the yard. :)

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

I love watching bears! There are 3 black bears penned in an area around the corner from me. I love watching them play ... swim, catch fish etc. They just want to have a sniff or two also!!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Nice shot Terry. I don't think I would go out after dark either unless I had some good halogen lights up all around the yard lit up like a ball field lol.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I like watching them too Deb. I have lights Donna but it doesn't seem to bother them at all, they will still come into the lit up yard.
Sometimes after sniffing all the Brugs they get tired and have to take a nap.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

LOL! Maybe they "sniff" a little too much????

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Terry ,

Such cool and unusual pictures .

Not gonna find too many like that around here.

Amazing shots .IMO

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Now that I look at your last photo, I think they have grown up some since you last posted a photo of them. I still think they are cool ... from a distance!!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

LOL Shirley, that might be it.
Thanks Scoot. Deb they get bigger each year and this summer one brought her two babies with her. It was too dark to get a picture of them though.

Moscow, TN(Zone 7a)

That is so cool. Do they look in the windows of your house? He sure is'nt shy. Nice picture!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

LOL, I had one of those come down on my Brug deck last year when I was pruning. I ran like the wind. And believe me, I can't run anymore. Good pics Terry.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

You are so funny Liz, running like the wind, I can picture it now............

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

LOL Liz. I've ran more than once from the back garden when I heard one coming through the woods.
Yes Shadow they do look in the windows. They get on the deck at night and can see me sitting at the computer. I usually know when they are on the deck as my dog will start growling.

Awwww!!!! How cute!! I love bears. Yes, I know they can be dangerous, but so can a cow! lol Gotta respect them! Wish I had one in my backyard. He could be a watchbear. Bet he would keep the thieves away!
If imzadi had had one in her backyard, I bet those thieves wouldn't have bothered HER house.

Oh wow! I just found this thread and I have so enjoyed your pictures of the bears. I think it would be so neat to live somewhere like you do and get to be as close to nature as possible. Please continue to post more pictures of your wonderful bears.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Usually the wildlife runs from me when we meet in the backyard.
But in this case I would run like the wind lol.
Great pictures Terry!

Wow! Those are great pictures!

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Fabulous photographs Terry but I'm glad that I don't have to deal with bears! :-)

Tallahassee, FL(Zone 8b)

Hey Boo Boo!

Is that a pic-i-nic basket I see?

Too cool! I love the bears!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

They are great to look at but I would run like the wind too if I heard one, and like lightning if I saw one in my yard.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Wow, Terry. great pictures but I wouldn't want them in my yard. LOL

Mukwonago, WI(Zone 5a)

Holy-Moly...Terry....What a great pic ! He (or maybe he is a she?) is one bold creature... Would you just look at that thing.... strutting its stuff in your brug garden ! Heck....he doesn't appear to be afraid of anything. Sure is a beautiful animal, though.
I hope you were using a telescopic lens on your camera (grin)

Great photos Terry, I think I'll quit complaining about the squirrels and rabbits. I did catch a few possoms.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Same here, Linda. Will take our small, pesky animals anyday! No bears for me.

SNOWHERMIT: I just read all of this thread and can't remember if anyone asked, does any of these bears ever destroy any of your brugs?

When they come up the steps you need to put your dog in the bedroom and shut the door and invite the ole bear in for a cup of coffee. Kidding of course. These are some great pictures. My husband got a bear 20 yrs. ago in Colorado, had it mounted in the upright position, and it stood over 7 ft tall. This week we finally got it out of the house. He donated it to Pro Bass Shop. Am I ever glad.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Scheesh Terry !

I've been animal lover my whole life but the thought of 'bruno' watching me through my window ?

Y I K E S !

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I wish they were in my yard, I'd love it, but I would take NO chances. Those photos are fantastic, I absolutely LOVE the 1st and 3rd and I believe they are the best animal/brug photos I've ever seen. Your place is beautiful too. What a treat to see a magnificent bear in your own garden. Do they visit you often???

I wish we had bears here. It is a beautiful creature. Once back in time we had both wolfes, bears, odders and large fishing eagles here. Several hawks as well, but as industrial agriculture slowly took over there was not left room for them anymore. The last foxes, crows are also about to disappear and it is a long time since we saw the last raven. Many wild animals here is not wild at all, but raised in deer farms. I love wild animals and hope that they will be re-installed in Denmark. I won' t mind sharing territory with a bear of a couple of wolfs. Precautions would be appropriate in some situations, but I would probably love it most of the time LOL I would give much to be in your shoes, Terry, having bears here in the garden :)

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

I agree they are wonderful creatures, as long as they are not spying on me while I'm in the house.

We had black bear when we lived Way up north .

They are fascinating creatures but I always had to be sure that my babies (children ) were safe.

Terry we were pretty isolated up there like you are , I think.

Down here we have smaller creatures , coons ,possum , fox , wild turkeys and lots & lots of coyotes.
Too many deer also.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad you liked the pictures.
Yes they can be a pain in the neck at times especially when they decide to sit in the middle of one of my gardens crushing the flowers with their big butts. LOL
They are pretty good about stepping around the Brugs although they have crushed a few small seedlings and dug some up when I fertilized them with fish emulsion.
And they love to destroy birdfeeders. Our good feeder gets put away in the springtime.
Tonny I hope someday you will get the wild animals back in Denmark.

Great to see you and you photos here again Terry, they're great!

This last one looks like he's smiling a sheepish apology for that bird feeder, lol!

Moscow, TN(Zone 7a)

Your place is beautiful. I can see why the bears love it. Your dogs must be big to hold their own with the bears.

Brookhaven, PA(Zone 6b)

I sure miss you Terry!

Modi'in, Israel

Wow that is sooooooooo COOL! Of course, it might not be cool if you really needed to go somewhere and one of them was sleeping on your driveway right beside the car door... How do you deal with that? Or do you keep your car in a closed garage? But watching them there in the garden....wow I'd gladly sacrifice a few plants now and then for the privilege of having bears in the garden. I get excited here if I see a gecko in my garden LOL No bunnies or squirrels or any other fuzzy creatures have ever come into our garden. A bear would be a dream! :-)

Gratiot, WI(Zone 5b)

Here's the toughest guy I have to deal with in my garden. When he walks up behind you going "Put 'em up, Put 'em up" It can get pretty frightening.

I wouldn't mind a bear visiting though.

Crossville, TN

Snowhermit...why didn't you have the bears visit while we were there? That would have been such a show. LOL Jo

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Richard! rofl, snort, cough and gas...........

SNOWHERMIT: speaking of big ole bear butts.... do they leave you steaming presents or do they have a little modesty and in the woods? If they leave it for you, how's it work for fertilizer? Of course cow and horse manure is good but dogs and cats are bad - which side of the fence does Yogi doo?

Maybe you could get a franchise on Father Dom's compost (Duck Doo) and have 'Yogi Doo' compost instead.

Those are cool pics and I realize maybe my prune-happy bunnies aren't so bad.
