Mudslide in N. Vancouver - Riverside Drive area

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I woke up to the news this morning saying they have evacuated 10 more houses. The earth is still moving apparently. It's raining hard again.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Apparently a report in 1980 warned about the risk of this very property.

Hopefully they can leave the finger-pointing side of human nature out of it, as they work to find out what went wrong.

I believe the 10 houses evacuated last night were considerably further south, after a homeowner on the curve where Swinburne turns into Lennox (this is up on the high bluff above Riverside) noticed cracks in her back yard soil. Three tiered backyard leading to retaining wall. The soil has been manually excavated to alleviate pressure on the wall. Precaution only, and evacuated the houses below on Riverside & Swinburne. They may be allowed back tonight. Damage control in high alert and should be interesting to see how it plays out. This is still a good distance from the 900 BLK, Lilypon, around 1500 to 1600 it would appear.

You just read my mind Sunrize. ;) Thanks for clearing up which blocks are now being affected. I'm sure Lynn will be wanting to know as well..........she also has relatives in that area.

Yes, we have two ladies for our Deep Cove gdn club..on Swinburne...the house next to Lorna's on the left side as you drive up Lennox, Dawn.......is the one they hauled out soil last night, wheel barrow by wheelbarrow...and that soil filled 3 dump trucks alone! Oh how we feel for everyone in distress! E

Well,..update on the situation...I was mixed up in saying our friends' kids were in the 600 blk.........nope...they are on the side closest to the slide in the 2000 blk, Treetop Lane...one house away from the destroyed home...........just talked to her, .......they had a mtg today, and the father who lost his wife, has gone from critical to serious condition in hospital...there still are 37 evacuated properties, as we speak.
