Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Kim:
"Does he talk back, roll eyes, and suck teeth??"

Isn't that in the job description for teens.
Yep he does everything but suck teeth. I refuse to replace his bedroom door until he goes off to college. It can only take so much abuse..

Tell you what I did with my #1 son when he was 16. Came up the lane one day to see tractor upsidedown. Son had been trying to help, backfilling new foundation for addition. Only 2 main rules in our house. No using machinery and no swimming without checking with an adult first.

Thank heavens he jumped sideways, not backwards. Went and bought a greyhound ticket for him. In those days (he is now 43), a ticket was $99 for 99 days, You could travel anywhre but only in one direction . Off he went with $100. Said I would see him labour day weekend. He ended up in the Yukon. Fell in love with the north. Went to Uni in Alaska _finally- Now settled in Whitehorse.

Sad that it isn't safe to do things like that now, isn't it.

Two other kids went up there too. Great summer jobs up there.

Inanda - thinking of Greyhound and chldren.

Do not under estimate any animal that has 'poo' in their name.

They have attitudes worse than the 16 yr olds!

And I say it's guilty and let sis have it when she comes to get him! LOL

(Zone 7a)

LOL LOL! I believe you..He was under the couch with a Purple leaf honeysuckle cutting...just chomping away. I'll miss the little booger but sure glad he's going home today.

Inanda, that's a great story about your son and the tractor incident! I have a similar story, as far as the tractor goes...

My two oldest brothers, when teenagers, took my dad's little Ford tractor out for a spin while he was away at work. Eventually, they got it stuck on the mucky edge of the swamp. They stewed and worried all day about what Dad would say when he got home.

When Dad returned that evening, he just took a look at the tractor buried in muck to its axels, and said, "We can get that out of there... I'll show you." The boys were so relieved that he wasn't upset, and stood patiently as he hooked block and tackle, etc. to the tractor and got it out.

When it was once again safe on solid ground, he asked the boys, "Now, did you pay attention while I did that?", and they both readily replied that they had. "Good", my dad said, and drove the tractor back into the swamp. "I'm headed back to house for supper. You boys come on up when you get the tractor out."

I really thought that was a great way to teach a kid to be responsible and to listen!

(Zone 7a)

You can really have them NOW!!! The Police just left my house. The 9 year old goof ball...Was playing on the phone and dialed 9-1-1.
Then hung up...So they come here and interrogate us as if we had did something. He's really cruising for a bruising! Maybe I should give him a reason to really call 9-1-1
LMBO!!!!!

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

That's too funny. One day when my son was about 3, I got the same knock on the door. The police said someone at my house dialed 911 but wouldn't say anything. The phone in the living room was fine so I went and checked the bedroom and sure enough, it was off the hook. He must have been playing with it and hit the speed dial for 911. How embarrassing!. They even insisted on a walk through to be sure everything was ok. Glad I made the bed Nice to know they are on the ball.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Oh no! Talk about putting you on the defensive... No officer, nothing's wrong, No, everything's ok, Jr. was just playing with the phone, you want to what? check for what? but there's nothing going on, honest, everything's fine, officer?................ (Poor Kim!).

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Especially when they're walking through your house with hand on their gun holster, wanting to know how else is in the house. EEEKS!

Kim, I posted this on Elena's site "The Gathering Place" the very day you posted about your plant mess.

Parental Quandry

Lips to cheek
I smile and seek
if eyes are wide
or pupils hide

She rests supine
my child divine -
angelic rest
My heart to test

For through the day
she'll toss and sway
from bliss to coy
and gloom to joy

Yet here she sleeps
and reprimand keeps
another day.
My will at bay

Inside I melt
no anger felt
no more to scold
just kiss and hold

Her still sweet face,
not a trace
of menace there
or dark despair

Was it a dream
or did I scream
"To bed you go!"

Yet now I see
my precious "me"
and wonder how
we came to row

Tomorrow's light
staves the respite
and off we'll be
her against me.
