I'm looking for a pic for my records.
It was a freebie from somewhere & all
I have is:
hybrid daylily
grn in michigan
That's what was on the package.
I've tried internet searches--got nothing.
Can anyone help?
GRN IN MICHIGAN Hybrid Daylily??
My guess is the grn stands for grown hence grown in michigan
Now that's a thought--I was going
for GREEN not GROWN.
Thanks, I'll try that.
Where did it come from?
I don't know!!
I'll have to dig out my packing slips
& try to track it down.
I was thinking their freebies might not
be listed, so as long as I was here, I
decided to ask rather than go dig them
out.
I'll try the GROWN thing & if I don't get
any hits, I'll go hunt the slips down.
The only names listed at Tinker's that are close begin with 'Michigan'. Do you think it could one their seedlings?
Maybe--
I did a search for "Grown in Michigan"
& didn't get anything.
When I can tear myself away from here,
I'll go see if I can find the packing slip.
I was suggesting that maybe the label was telling you where the plant was grown..in Michigan. I know that a lot of those 'hybrid daylilies' are un-named. If you can sell them at least you make some money on them rather than throwing them away. I believe very few seedlings ever make it to 'named status' so I'm sure alot of them are just sold as'hybrid daylilies'
I know that a lot of the lilies sold in collections are not registered lilies and you are just buying color. Daylilies might be the same. Maybe someone can confirm or refute my theory.
I'm inclined to confirm. I've seen on a site or two where they offer the siblings of named DL. They may look similar or at least will probably have the coloration. Not a bad deal I guess as long as you're not looking for a 'look-alike'.
This was just something they included in
the order. A freebie! It's not on any of my
packing slips.
I'm sure it was just a way of getting
rid of it; rather than throwing it away.
I'm new to gardening and way naive!
Thanks for y'alls input.
Freebies are good too! It might be from a really nice cross.
It might be a moot point, as I probably
killed it!! It sat on the patio a couple of
months. I didn't even realize it was there
for over a mo., then I was too pre-occupied
with other things to plant it.
It looked pretty dried out, but I planted it
anyway. Miracles still happen, you know!!
Daylilies will grow in the firey pits of hades, LOL. Don't be surprised if it comes back strong. hehe
Thanks,
Send up some prayers for it please,
it can use all the help it can get. I'm
not the world's best gardener!!
Shhhh--don't tell--this is a Gardening
Place, & they might not let me stay
here!!
Trust me, confessing all of your gardening sins is safe here! LOL We've all committed heinous gardening crimes at one time or another ~

Oh Joy!! I'm home, I'm home!!
Thanks.
Welcome! lol
I'm gonna start a thread somewhere called--The most heinous gardening
thing/things I've done!
Where should I put it for the most exposure (was that a pun??).
Full sun?
Sorry Moby. I was referring to the new thread.
*snicker*.... I know! ;)
Oh. Duh!!
How about in Garden Talk?
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/443205/
That's a great idea.
Now, if I can only remember to do it!!
I just made a note to myself. Expect to see it in the next year or so!!
Lol.
I'm seeing alot of daylilies advertised as "landscapers specials". This is a way hybridyzers can get $$ out of seedlings that they need to thin out. Seedlings that are pretty, but not different or desirable enoug to register.
Are lilies offered that way too?
Landscapers special means "unidentifiable and cheap; no one else will buy it and you can mark it up 4 times and get away with it".
