I've been experimenting with germinating seeds in jars and coffee filters, (with the hydrogen peroxide and water solution) and I've had some pretty good sucess. However, I really don't know when to plant these seeds into some soil. (they will be going in starter trays with starter soil. ) The seeds in the jars are daylilies and I'm going to follow the link instructions given by notmartha and leave them until they have acutally sprouted some greenery. But what about my little hollyhock seeds? They are in coffee filters and they have about 1/4-1/2 inch growth on them, when do I put them in the soil? Do I plant the whole thing under the soil line? or leave the white thingy above the soil line? (ok, you guys can quit laughing about the "white thingy" term now ) ha
Germination experiments... when do I plant?
The white thingy is probably root, and I would go ahead and put them to your starter pots. I'd wet these with the same soaker solution.
If your not sure, lay them on top and sift thin layer of medium over the top. I believe the root will seek the soil. Tent with clear baggy, and keep out of direct sun light, lest you cook them.
Best of luck and someone with more knowledge will be by shortly with better info.
Sidney
