I need this plant! LOL
What MG is this?
Jocelyn I am trying to find out what it is but haven't had much sucess. It could be one of the Texas Natives that folks talk about that are the pretty pink but I dont have much information on them. You could post the photo on GW there are more MG growers there and they may know or have some information on it.
The photo dosne't give us much to go on so I am just at odds here and don't want to miss name it and have some come up later about it.
Dee
Thank you for trying Dee! I might post it on GW a bit later, unless I forget, LOL! I have to remember my username and password though, hehe.
It looks pink to you? I thought it was salmony/orange. Maybe I'm colourblind, LOL.
A DG memebr sent me an email saying-
The plant pictured is Ipomoea cordatotriloba,which is very closely related to Ipmoea triloba,with the actual technical differences being of value mostly to academicians...,but I.cordatatriloba tends to have larger flowers and to produce them in a more clustered manner than I.triloba...;
The color on the flower is not correct is should be a pinkish with sometimes a 'hint'of salmon in it...;
There are many(!)variations and the plant grows in the Texas area states South to Brazil.
So now we have an I.D - yippie! Thanks Ron!

When I did a search for Ipomoea Lindheimeri I got the picture of your morning glory. It was the second link on the page.
Thanks Windy! :-)
Sorry for this bad news, CrimsonTsavo but I got this email from a fellow gardener about the picture.
This is his quoted message.
The plant picture that comes up on the page you reffered to, is one of the general(!) pictures that the site uses as the starting page for MG's...;
Ipomoea lindheimerii has flowers that range from an almost white to darker shades of a blue/lavender...no pink-ish flowered forms have ever been known to exist...the flowers on Ipomoea lindheimerii are also structured differently being larger than Ipomoea cordatotriloba, with different corolla ribbing and usually with a nicely somewhat ruffled edgeing to the flower,very showy(!), that is not unlike some of the Japanese MG's!
I like them both,but aside from the leaves bearing different degrees of lobing with the I.cordatotriloba usually bearing 3(+2) and the I.lindheimerii having leaves with usually 5(+2),visually the two species are sufficiently distinct enough to eliminate any cross mis- identification...;
I have found the information presented on many 'official' sites to be presented in a confusing manner and many times having(understandably human error) mistakes/misinformation that sometimes only a thorough knowledge of this family can tell the difference...;
Hoping this information is of some help,and please do share from this e-mail if you are so inclined
Not bad news! Just correct news. :-) I will get me a MG that looks like that now, hehe. Thank you Windy!!
This is another reason why it is so hard to ID some MG varities. Many sites post photos and seem to just throw in a name or even several names and hope for the best. To say the least many photos are of poor quality and the colors are not true, some are inhanced to a color the flower never was to begin with.
I also think the leaf color, size, shape all is a factor in deciding the name of a Morning Glory. So I am glad to see more that are intrested in making sure the right name is attached and not just throwing one on it.
Growing these beauties and keeping records so they can be correctly Identified in the database is hard work and it is heart breaking to see so many missnamed and sold under false Identification. We are on the ground floor with these and I hope we will be good stewarts and take as good of care as we can to
make sure we properly name each one and if one should be misnamed correct it as soon as possiable.
Dee
