G'Morning

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

-15C to -20C when the wind pics up.......we are having a heat wave!! :D

Is that next cold front that is slowly leaving Alaska supposed to visit you as well?

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Yep I knew you'd be able to handle it......I know what it can be like around Eston. ;) Glenda and my mother's parents were almost neighbors.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Don't you worry Glenda, if my hydrangea and Plum and other fruit trees can survive here, they'll be just fine there. You got a wack of snow though, didn't ya? We look about the same here too, except it hasn't let up yet. The snow stopped a couple times, but starts again. Our temps are staying right around 0 celsius a little under now, expected to be at 0 again tomorrow and into next week. I pray we get a little reprieve from this Arctic front that has been affecting us for the past couple weeks. GO BACK TO THE ARCTIC!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Forgot to mention Glenda DD and her BF are taking a page out of your book tonight........they took off earlier to take a dip at the outdoor pool.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Pam, you have an outdoor pool open this time of year? Or are you talking Hot Tub?

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

It's the hot mineral water at the Spa's pools Donna.... some neighbors also have Hot Tubs going right now.

this link has a pic of the outdoor pool: http://templegardens.sk.ca/index.htm

Ah yes, I remember you showing us that lovely place a little while back. Gonna definitely go there when I visit MJ. What a nice place for DD's BF to take her. when I was her age, a date was a movie and a trip to A&W, and if it was an established boyfriend, just a trip to the A&W. LOL

Renting $1.00 movies from Shell has been the usual size of his pocketbook (he is a student) ;)..... a *special treat* weekend evening/day dip (for locals) is $13.50 person/$6.00 on weekdays. They both ate at home this evening.

Glenda, you got about 3x what we got. It really looks like a winter out there, while here, I can still see bits of grass poking through. It's still really windy, and I bet the wind chill is close to -10, (I know, it's not much for the rest of the country) I was out with my diabetic dog this morning, and my hands got really cold quite quickly. I don't want to wear gloves, because they might get wet when I'm checking her p for sugar.

Last evening there was a filler between shows on the knowledge network, and it was about the Kootenays hot springs. They focused on 5 of them, but said there was lots more. Had lots of footage of folks sitting in these wonderous pools with snow all around them. Reminds me of when I had an outdoor hot tub in Fredericton that we ran all year round.

Is that the one up around Nakusp, Linda.? DH and I drove up there this past summer (2 hours north) and I was so impressed with the beautiful scenery. Upper Arrow Lake is gorgeous. I saw the signs to the Hot Springs, but we didn't venture that far. My DD and SIL went there for their honeymoon. Lovely spot.

Glenda, your photos are incredible....I can't believe that's Victoria! Or Saanich, anyway. Hope you guys on the coast have all been able to take it easy this weekend. What are things like now?

Here's a link to the Takhini hot springs just north of Whitehorse. If the panorama doesn't rotate, reload the page. I went to these springs in July, but I believe they're open all year-round. It's quite a feeling, being in a hot tub or spring with snowflakes falling on your head and the top of your hair turning to ice! :-)

Oop, just found a winter shot too! This one has some interesting info about the springs.

Whew...got dizzy there! Looks inviting alright, Shannon. You know what struck me though? How short the trees were. I guess these don't get all that tall up North.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

I've been to the hot springs outside of Whitehourse, and to the ones in Liard, also Harrison in BC. That show on the Knowledge network did talk about the Nakusp hot springs as well.

Donna, I'll try to find some pictures of the trees in and around Yellowknife. I remember when I moved frmo YK to Whitehorse I was amazed, the the trees in Whitehorse were tall compared to YK.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Yep, the further north & east you go, the shorter the trees are... I was amazed by the little scrubby ones in Yellowknife, and in Churchill MB they are even smaller, when they're there at all. Whitehorse looks like a jungle by comparison.

Linda, how're you guys making out now with the snow?
