Winter Garden Splendor

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

A big thank you to everyone for your wonderful compliments. I am really enjoying my garden but it remains a work in progress. I have tons of plants to put into the ground and I'm waiting for others to fill in. I also have seeds to plant. If only I had the time to do it all!

As I was uploading the photographs before I left for work this morning, I could smell the mingled scent of the brugmansias as it wafted through my window. It was divine and I didn't want to go to work! :-)

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Lisa, here in 10a we are too, though they are starting to put out new green growth. I think my Tennessee zone tried to follow me down here!
Delcie, your flowers are beautiful!

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

beautiful! Is the big plumie inground or potted?

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Wow,I'm iced in,no hope of a bloom for months,I need to pack a bag and head your way, your plants look sooo Happy! Give those Brugs a sniff for me!

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Calalily:
Thanks!

vossner:
The large plumie is in the ground. I think it was in a one gal. pot when I bought it and it took off once I planted it. It was labeled Plumeria 'Species' by Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and it has a beautiful white flower.

Root:
You're back!! Yay!!!!!! You and Monica can pack your bags and come on down! There's plenty of room and flowers for everyone!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Great pictures. It will be 7 months before I have blooms like that again. Can't wait. I'd love to see your yard in person. It looks awesome.

oh my
THEY'RE BEAUTIFUL!
I'm looking at some of your plants growing outside and recognize them as my very tender tropicals that are only allowed outside to play in June ,July and August ....and some are ones I've have killed ....very easily
Zone envy!

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Thanks Brugie:

However, if you saw my yard in person, you'd probably run screaming, in horror. LOL The individual plants are pretty but the yard as a whole is still under construction. :-) I hope to do massive amounts of work on it this year if I can find time after work and after completing my school work.

CC:

Zones are so important. When my sweetheart mentioned moving at one time to get a better job, I said, "Hmmm, I'll have to find out what zone that's in." He's not a gardener so he replied, "It's still in the eastern time zone." LOL I can't imagine living outside of zone 10b again and I hope I never have to.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gardeners yards are always under construction. I'm sure it is gorgeous. You work and go to school on top of gardening? I don't know how you would even find time to have a garden. Sending big pats on the back to you for your energy and determination. I hope you graduate soon so you can have a little more time for yourself.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

delecie....simply gorgeous....all of them! Oh, sure rub it in that you have heat and I have the beautiful white flowers....lol. I'm planning to come to the Florida swap....I'll have to make sure I bring my shovel! Did you grow the Red Brazilian Cloak from seeds? It's purrrrrrrrrty!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful garden!

Donna:
You're too funny. I can see you now with your shovel as the plant police whisk you away on a garden cart. LOL I wish that I could attend the Florida Swap but I have school that day.

I grew the Brazilian Cloak from a cutting. A little more than two years ago I bought a book on Ebay and the seller lives locally. When I arrived at his place to pick up the book, he and his wife gave me a tour of their beautiful tropical garden and loaded my trunk with seedlings, plants, and a cutting of their huge Brazilian Cloak when they learned I was a new gardener. If you look at this link, you'll see photographs of the cutting in October, 2002: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/418237/ However, you'll have to scroll down quite a bit to get to the photograph :-)

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Shucks that you can't come to the swap, but now that I know that you won't be there....I'll bring everyone over!
;) Donna

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

LOL Donna:

I'll have to warn Eek and Meek (my imaginery guard cats) to be on the look out for strangers with gardening implements! However, you might change your mind about coming: Homestead is the city right above Florida City. Florida City is the last city you pass through before you reach the beginning of the Florida Keys (Key Largo). Now that's a drive! :-)

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thank you for letting me take a little winter break! Your plants are beautiful!!! You must be doing everything right..... Even though I'm SO jealous. I'm very happy your getting to enjoy blooms in the dead of winter. I love that Red Brazilian Cloak.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

What's to far for free plants...he he he!
;) Donna

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Thanks Kristi. I'm learning to do the right things from some of the best minds that Dave's Garden has to offer. I'm looking forward to seeing photographs of your beautiful garden this spring and summer.

LOL Donna! Since I can't deter you, I'll leave the gate open for you and I'll tell Eek and Meek to let you take whatever you want. ;-)

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Okie, dokie! Hmmm....big shovel or little shovel? Which will they let me on the plane with.
;) Donna

Mc Call Creek, MS

Delecie, your flowers are absolutely gorgeous! Mine are all brown and chopped down right now. That Brazilian Cloak is to die for! Thanks for sharing!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Delecie, your pictures are beautiful. I wish I lived in a warmer place when I see all this. LOL

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Your Cypress Gardens looks just like the ones I had in Buffalo, NY 45 years ago. I have no idea where I got the seed, but I remember planting it. Of course up there they were short lived....never got them used to -15 degress and snow. Thanks for the memories...

Gaylams and ahelms:

Before you both know it, Spring will be here. Although it is cold here today by South Florida standards (51 degrees right now), it is great to be able to look outside and still see the bright red of the Brazilian Cloak, the orange of Hibiscus 'Country Music', the purple of Thunbergia erecta, and beautiful green leaves. The brugmansia blooms have dropped but more are ready to spring forth.

Nancy Lee:

Since you are in sunny South Florida now, are you growing any Brugmansias? What's blooming in your garden today?

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

I'm definitely for sure coming with my shovel. I have my ticket booked for the Floriday/Alabama swap! Yahoooo!! Where is Homestead in regards to Orlanda or Deltona?
:) Donna

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Donna, Homestead is in Southern Florida, close to Miami -- maybe a 3 1/2 to 4 hour drive from Orlando.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Ah shucks....lol! I think you're safe from me delecie!
:) Donna

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

LOL Donna! It's only a four hour drive from Orlando if you take the turnpike and don't run into any heavy traffic. You can do it and remember, Eek and Meek have been ordered to stand down upon your arrival. :-)

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Hmmm.....four hours.....lol.
:) Donna

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

51 degrees would be a heat wave right now. LOL

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

LOL ahelms:

You should have seen some of us South Florida folks today, including me! I had on my hat, leather coat, and boots. Underneath the outer gear I wore a suede pantsuit with a pullover sweater. I was prepared but still cold! I think it will warm up by the beginning of next week. Woo Hoo!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)
