Grow light stand project

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Wow, Gordon, I'm fascinated and by golly, next trip to NYC, I'd like to book a get together. Only takes me 2 1/2 hours, non stop, from Arky, which is amazing, huh! There was so much packed in your post, but did I understand that you root stuff under your waterbed? If so, where is the light, and, with the sand, isn't that really heavy to roll in and out?? I love reading your posts!!!

I do too Gordon but would like pictures to go with each step. Jeanette

Well thanks Sherry..
Sure ..glad to have you by to view the gardens.. just allert me and I'll pull time t give you the tour.. with complementary refreshment....
OH .. it's not under the water bed... in the roll out trays I mentioned.. I placed the foam and on top of it the waterbed heater.. got two of them on e-bay.. the benefit of them over a heatting mat is they are designed to operate hotter then the mat which cuts off about 85 or so.. the waterbed heater I hear gets over 100*F.. .. I cover it in plastic to prevent water on it.. then the sand.. this unit I put in my shelving rack.. it just fits... the igger things like rooted cuttings I have on the top shelf and the seeds when they are started go on the lower shelves.. I have the 3'x 18" bakers unit similar to PictureLady's unit... and that's the one that the rolling plastic unit fits so well in.. I had bought a bigger one at first but then got the 3x18 unit.. the larger roll out plastic unit would have been better for the 4' shelves..
So.. come by for a visit next time Sherry.. what brings you to NYC from Akansas.. most are afraid to come... are you near the MS river there.. I often visit on the other side.. near Greenville..MS

I am so grateful that I saw this thread, before I bought any more shelves. One look at it and I knew I had to have it.
I had gotten a gift card for Menards (I don't know if its anywhere but this area or not) They had all most the same thing and I snatched up two of them as fast as I could.

The ones I got have one less shelf on them and I decided for 20.00 less that was tolerable. The length and width were perfect.

The other thing that I saw there that I thought was very interesting was do it yourself shelves made out of the same materials as the ones they sell as complete kits.

They had the shelves, posts, clips, and other items that I could have purchased to use with mine. It looked like it would be more expensive to make them that way then to buy them in the box, but I thought for additional items it would be great.

I think I will go back and get the casters, mine didn't come with those, but it did come with the adjustable legs so it would be possible to use the casters.

My son helped me get them together and I started moving plants yesterday. I am so amazed how much more these hold than the shelving that I was using out there.

So thanks again to all of you that posted this great information!

I luv this thread! Great info. I would luv to get more plant stands but DH would have a fit....lol! He said if I brought in one more plant....our house would turn to mould...lol. He either didn't realize or didn't want to but I sneaked in 4 plants this weekend.

I really like seeing everyone else's setups and plants, except than I get all excited and want to find them to...lol!

Thanks again for all the ideas.

I know it's a bit 'after the fact', but with mine I bought cheap shower curtain liners (at the $Tree for $1/ea) and tacked them to the wall behind the stand. Now, when I spray etc I don't have to worry about the wall. I also have plastic on the floor covered with an old throw rug for drips etc. My setup is in my sewing room, now I call it my sew/sow room. I spent hours up there yesterday because it was too cold to go outside.

Linda...great idea about the plastic...sew/sow room- I like it!!!

I like it too. Sure beats my so,so, room. LOL! My seedlings are growing in my computer/spare bedroom that also has a treadmill in it. Kinda crowded in here, but cozy warm.

This is a tray of Kell's month old babies. I'll put them in a separate thread so she will see them.

You are lucky to have all them babies. They are really looking great. Think I will add shower curtin to the back of mine also. Only, tie it to the stand, so when I roll it somewhere the curtin will go with it. Cut up the remaining to lay on the shelves to keep water from dripping on the lights.

Linda, they are looking really good. Won't be too many months and they will be showing flowers.

Those look sooooo healthy, Linda!!!

Thanks all, I think they're doing so well because the seeds were fresh. Thanks again Kell.
