That's kind of cool...you have someone who was a New Year's baby at your house.

And your daughter's birthday is on the 4th. Funny how family birthdays come in little clumps. Two cakes in 4 days. Sounds good to me.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

DH's birthday is on the 27....his Dad's was on the 11th and my Grandmother's was on the 12th........we tend to be very poor at this time of year!! ;)

edited to say and get very tired of birthday cakes by the end of January!!

Happy New year everyone. Be safe, happy, serene and healthy.

I'm not going to make to new years here. The dinner guests have left, the dishwasher is on, and my pillow is calling my name.

I Hope you all had a great night, and this coming year is a better year for us all. I'd take a lotto win.....

Just home from a very smooth and successful NYE. 120 guests and no complaints - alleluiah. Creme Brule and chocolate mousse by far the big dessert hits. Almost sold out of quail - who would have figured. Half the folks had seafood bisque. More duck than salmon on second. Hardly any tuna - too bad a great dish. Fairly even on the other entrees with beef out in front by about 15% (but if have another medium well or well done in the next two weeks i will scream)
having 14 at home tomorrow for dinner - i know i'm nuts
then a major menu change next week as well as the deep clean (toothbrush and q tip time) of the kitchen
the very best in 2005 to everyone; may it be as good a year as the one we just put to bed
going to have a glass of wine and some chocolates and go to bed now

Okay................................................you people(who shall remain unnamed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) that sent snowflakes our way...........................well, guess what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It worked. Woke up to white ground this morning,a nd it is snowing as we speak. I guess this is our once a year snowfall. Not cold, about 1 above, and I see the snow melting off the trees a bit! Mother in law from Saskatoon thinks it's great!!!!
Went to Butchart Gardens last night, and it was lovely. I bet all the zillions of lights they have will look beautiful tonight with tthe snow!!!

Sounds like a fabulous menu. I wish we could all come there. I like my beef rare but not blue. Quail a bit of a surprise, no? Jagonjune, could you enlighten me about cleaning my commercial Garland. The supplier has no ideas nor has Garland answered my e-mails. The grill is no problem, nor the ovens, but the burners, I tend to just burn off and wire brush the top. Any better way? After all, it is 2005 and a better looking stove would be a good resolution don't you think?
Glorious New Year--all year.

Happy New Year everyone! It's great to read about all your holidays in this thread.

I was travelling yesterday, in southern Manitoba....or NOT travelling, more accurately. The Trans-Canada was closed between Brandon and Winnipeg so I spent 3 hours sitting in the Brandon Air Shuttle van in the parking lot of a Petro-Canada in the north end of Brandon, with 9 of my new friends. Eventually the highway opened up, but it was not pretty. Missed my plane home out of Winnipeg and had to get a later one, which itself was late - spent 5 hours in the Wpg airport - which is actually a nice airport, small & lots of stuff to browse. Had a great Swiss-mushroom cheeseburger in the airport bar/lounge!

Rang in 2005 sitting on the tarmac at the Ottawa airport, because when the plane arrived, there were no ground crew to greet us! Perhaps they were all having champagne inside ;-) Then when DH picked me up at the airport at 12:30 this morning, he informed me that our car had died on the way to the airport - those darn mice have made a comeback, and they chewed our alternator wire!!! So, we had to call CAA (bless them - every year that is the best $75 I ever spend), take a cab to the stranded car, ride home in the tow truck....bleah. The car's sitting at the garage now, and they won't be at work til Monday, so we're having a quiet weekend at home with the kitties, who missed us terribly by all accounts.

All in all it was a great holiday though, and the travel was not even that bad, compared to some of the stories I've heard over the years.

And of course, our life in general is paradise, relatively speaking. The tragedy in Asia is almost unimaginable.

I hope you are all keeping well!

Nice to see you back Shannon, and home safe and sound.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Yikes, Shannon. What a homecoming, huh? We have been hearing lots about all the nasty weather on the prairies. That storm is heading further east too, according to the Weather Channel this morning. We were talking to some of DH's relatives in Regina a couple days ago, and they were telling of blizzards and nasty cold temperatures with lots of road closures as well.

Sorry to hear about your luck, Glenda. We have had a "ton of the stuff" over the past few days, and I am here to tell ya that that wonderful white sh....stuff can and will come down and stay with temperatures right around 0 celsius. Oh yes, happens here all the time. Good news is, it won't last long. We have a lovely sunny day here today, a little cooler at +1, but that's because it is clear. At least it's not snowing!

Nice to hear you survived DS's birthday party, Pam! Lynn, nice also, to hear your NYE dinners were a success. Just knew that chocolate crepe would be a winner!

Dawn, I do hope you are not planning on cleaning that stove of yours today...relax, be happy!

Thanks Linda. Hope you're keeping well.
Wonderful white what, Donna? ;-)

Lynn, your New Year's Eve meal offerings sounded scrumptious! Glad to hear it went off without a hitch, not that any of us had any doubt!

Shannon

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Stuff, Shannon. Did I spell it wrong? What...

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Yeh, must've been a typo, a slip of the tongue. Would never think anything else, given how we know you feel about snow ;-)

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

LOL, I guess that would give it away, wouldn't it? Bad Donna..Bad!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Well we now know Milan also survived both his birthday and the New Year.......what about you Lynn???

Donna for you I have a link so you can look at the white sh__ ;) in a different way: http://www.its.caltech.edu/~atomic/snowcrystals/photos/photos.htm
