I can not belive I am not more that 10 miles as the crow flies from the coast and have such a snow fall as this. I have seen the weather channel and it said we had 13 inches of snow in Brazoria.........
IMAGIAN...........
these are what's left of my bananas, they are in a 40 gallon pot.

I just don't know where to start or stop, I have everything that is either frozen or broken or I don't know...........Most of the plants in the wash house froze to since it did get pretty cold last night and I guess that was just not enough protection. Good thing I had taken most of the seedling in the house, I just had a feeling it was the thing to do...........
That was a close call............ 8o)

This is Cypress Gardens............

Oh Dee, you still have snow? It even snowed on South Padre Island! Can you believe that? I think your brugs are probably going to be okay. Did the ground freeze too?

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't think we had a hard freeze, and I do think the brugs will be alright. I think they will suffer leaf burn and damage from limbs breaking from the weight of the ice and snow. The stuff in the wash house was just up and I should have brough it all in but most I have duplicates of so it is no big deal. It is just that I could have given them to someone instead of letting them freeze.
I think when the dust settles "so to speak" it will have looked worse than it is.

Yes we still have lots of snow on the ground. For some reason we seemed to have recived the most snow that fell in the area. The backyard is still covered and I tried to knock it off the plants but ended up doing more damage than good so I left it alone.
This is the back cornor with EE's that got covered, they were stiff and broke when I touched them so they are gone, but I am sure the roots will survive and they will come back in the spring.
The lumps are a Dutchmans pipe and Thumbergia covered with a sheet and hay and then the snow is over that so I don't know how they faired. I hope they made it they were both to lage to move and I didn't have a space to put them. so.........we'll see.

I meant to cover my thunbergia, but I just ran out of time and energy(and sheets). It is brown today.

Cold or freezing or what ever, I have really enjoyed this beautiful snow. I have watched the children across the street playing in it and seen my own children playing in it as well. We will all come through it and be better because we were blessed with it.
What a wonderful Christmas to remember on the Gulf Coast and I wonder if we will have another like this to remember anytime soon. Even in the heat of the summer when I see an Isabella in bloom I will remember the one in a snow covered blanket.
I am so happy I was here to see it.................

What a beautiful recollection, that should be the photo of the week, just breathtaking :-)
Yes, the weather continues to be memorable this year. I am glad so many have enjoyed it. Watch out, you might get hit with a snowball...

Dee,
That's a beautiful pic of the brug and snow!
I think you got hit a little harder than I did and it looks like Cala had a good bit too???

Hope all turns green for you in spring.

Beautiful pictures and I will always remember this snowfall that we had also. I found that the freeze that we had on the night of the 26th did so much more damage than the snow on the 25th. I believe most of my plants will be ok. . . but we still have Jan and Feb to go and Feb is usually our coldest month. Even some of my tropicals that froze, I believe will come back from the ground. I ran out of towels, blankets and sheets and just could not protect it all.

Lottie I know the further east you went the lighter the snow got a the further north the same. I went to Moonlightings (Pam) Christmas day late in the evening and the snow was gone. We still had snow the next day and it was just gone today. So I know we had alot more than most folks, the weather forcaster said Brazoria had 13 inches and that is what I measured in the back yard so I guess he knew what he was talking about.

Frannie, I sure think you are right. I looked at the Brugs the day after the snow and thought well they look like they will be alright. Well the next day they looked like someone threw "hot water" on them so I am sure the freeze the next night is what did them in. To bad we didn't get lucky and just get the snow and not the hard freeze on top of it all..........
But I am sure we will recover...........
I hope you are feeling better.
Best wishes

Wow, you guys got more than Victoria. They got 11 inches and some of it was still there last night.

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Dee,
I know I didn't get 13 inches of snow or I would be in the hosptial from shock. lol
At the most we probable had maybe a total of 3-4 inches.
You are right about the hard freeze... it hit hard here,too..took out all the brugs summer growth and it took a toll on everything I left unprotected. Like everyone else I ran out of sheets, blankets and towels etc, to cover with and the house & patio room were full.
I never expected for it to snow. One of the old weatherman said we had a 60 percent chance it would NOTsnow...guess he feels pretty silly now.

Hubby said for me to cheer up because now I would have things to shop for in the spring... lol

Glad it's gone but I will be making better arrangements for the rest of this winter:)

(Zone 8b)

Well I have some pretty brown leaves on some of the stuff i wrapped where it touched the wtrapping but the crowns all look OK so hopefully they will recover. My Mexican Fan Palms are supposed to be OK once established, but these are babies and I'm not sure that even when bigger they would be happy with 17F overnight and a high of 28F for two consecutive days! It ain't supposed to do that!!
The snow has taken till today to go completely in my yard - thats a whole week of it. Still at least it went and didn't sit around as that horrible dirty slush we got in the UK.
