I wish to try to grow Golden Chain Tree (Laburnum anagyroides or Laburnum watereri), and Pink Strawberry tree 'Rubra' (Arbutus unedo 'rubra'). How hard is it to grow these from seed? Does anyone have any seeds you'd like to trade?
Golden Chain Tree and Pink Strawberry tree 'Rubra'
Golden Chains are easy from seed. I have them popping up all over the neighbourhood. Around here, growers nick the seeds (you can rub them between coarse sandpaper), then pot them and leave them outside for the winter (I'm not sure if they need the cold period but it certainly doesn't hurt). They sprout like weeds in the spring. I've never tried Arbutus so I cannot give any suggestions there.
Thank you!
