Christmas at Butchart Gardens

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Linda, thanks for all of these! The atmosphere definitely comes through.

Lynn, the lights in Hawrelak park are great; same with Candy-Cane Lane. If you haven't seen it, it's in the west end...I forget what St. now. It's spectacular. Is it not called Hawrelak park anymore?

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Candy Cane Lane is on 147 Street, isn't it? As far as I know, Hawrelak Park is still the name of Hawrelak Park. Correct me if they've changed it in the past 2 years, Lynn. Haven't heard from Lynn in a while. I wonder if she is holidaying in some exotic destination?

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Yeah, 147 St...that sounds about right. I know it took me 4 or 5 years of living in Edmonton before I could figure out where it was :-)

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

yeah right I'm holidaying in a really exotic location - my kitchen (75 hour work weeks right now)
i live two blocks off candy cane lane - the traffic is lovely
and yes most people have switched to the hawrelak park name - but it will be forever mayfair park to me

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

I agree. Much as the old Mayor was popular, it seemed a shame to change such a lovely sounding name that had been the name of the park forever. Now, we won't even go to "Gretzky Drive"!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Yep, it'll still be Capilano for me, not Gretzky!

Lynn, sorry to hear about the traffic....I've often wondered what it must be like for folks living near the Lane.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

"Really"! (on both comments)

Wouldn't you know!!! All ready to hit Butchart Gardens right after dinner, and the tripod is nowhere to be found!!! Why is it, that things disappear and you can't find them when you need them the most???

AARGHHH!!!!

Well, never did find the tripod, so went without it. Got a lot of fuzzy pictures, but a few turned out good. This one especially. Linda, I'm going to post a picture of the five rings, that turned out pretty good. Also a couple of the sunken garden, that are probably duplicates of yours, but a bit clearer.
You and I will need to find a good deal on the tripods!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glenda, they are much better, hope you had a good time, it was chilly last night with that wind.

I do have a tripod, and we are planning to get out there in the next few evenings, so will give it another shot (pardon the pun!)

Lovely pictures! I'm looking sooooooooo forward to seeing Butchart again! :D

LInda, yes it was chilly last night. We bundled Mothe rin Law up in long johns, two sweaters, coats, etc and then wrapped her in a huge quilt in the wheelchair. She was quite comfortable. Hope you get out to Butchart while there is still some snow. I think there might be some great pics.
Happy New Year!

Thanks for these pictures, Glenda - they're great! I had never seen the gardens in dark or at Christmas, so this virtual tour has been fun.

Awesome photos, Glenda. Thanks for sharing them. Along with the others, I have never seen the Butchart in the winter nor in the dark, so this was a real pleasure!

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Thanks for sharing the pictures Glenda. It's great to see it all lit up with Christmas lights.
