What would you plant here?

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Well if you ever decide to get rid of the Sago's let me know. I am sure we could trade out something. I am unsure how far Bayview is from San Antonio but I've been known to travel for plant trades lol

It is 4 or 5 hours, depending which side of SA you are on. I promise not to dig any more up and toss them without letting you know about it first!

Cala...my experience with any of the Alpina gingers...like the Shell...is that once they take hold they are there forever!!! and they can be messy. But if it is a Curcuma type, that would be easier.

Calalilly....here is our "hedge" of crotons...hiding the large propane tank. 1.5 years old... Breaking it up with something horizontal, and/or dark red Ti in clumps might look nice. Carol

I see all that wall space and the lines in the roof and wonder where is all the color? Definitely tropical flowers and maybe some fruit. Sorry but I’m partial to things that look nice, make pretty flowers and give fruit as a bonus.

On each side of the walkway in square self watering planters I would do Jaboticaba.

Along the wall, that long wall where the palms are I would install small eyelets with a fine wire frame and start growing a wonderful flowering vine like passion flower which fruits or many of the wonderful flowering vines available in your zone.

I’m not sure how much sun you get on that side of the house but you definitely need color.

A few tropical trees that fruit and flower that should be considered in landscaping are-

Guava – excellent for a nice large planter, in the ground and easy to prune and control.

Dwarf Ambarella aka June Plum- what a pretty tree- nice fruit and flowers too.

Cherries of the Rio Grande- nice foliage & shape, very yummy fruit that attracts butterflies and birds.

Allspice – smells nice, very pretty shape and easy to grow.

Miracle Fruit – dark green, nice shape, get small red berries, very pretty and when you eat the berries it makes EVERYTHING taste sweet for hours after.

The list can go on and on. Picture is barbados cherry flower, small, very pink and the fruit is yummy.
