Veggie Cages for Morning Glories

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Has anyone used these "Veggie Cages" for Morning Glories? They look like they might work well and be attractive. Also, I was wondering how large a pot you use for MG's and how many per pot.

I used something similar for some 'star of yelta' morning glories. I had seen it in a garden magazine...

They took a regular tomato cage and turned it upside down. Then they curled the three spikes sticking up, under, to make a scroll design. I used a three gallon pot, I believe, and it fit perfectly. Not all three gallon or five gallon have the same size opening on top, so kept trying until I found one that fit just right.

I found the pot in the "pot graveyard" at the back of my local "Mom & Pop" nursery. They are always happy to reduce their "pile of junk". lol...

I'd say it worked really well, overall. I think it would be even better for a vine that had to be over-wintered. That way, it would be easy to bring in. It seemd silly after I did it, to container-ize an annual! lol...

I used regular $.99 tomato cages this year and planted morning glories and other climbing vines anywhere in my yard that I wanted some color. I planted them right in the ground and set the cage just as I would for tomatoes. It worked great and looked beautiful. I set one cage at the corner of my garage and had some fringed pink morning glories in it that climbed up the corner of the garage with no help from me. It really made a beautiful display. Once the morning glory plants mature, you won't even SEE the cage.
