Is there a good site or forum to explain how to root roses. Thanks,Jody

http://www.rdrop.com/~paul/hulse.html This is all I have available right now, but if I run into something else, I'll let you know. Personally, I think damp sand works very well. At least it has for me.

Now all I need is someone to send me some cuttings of old garden roses that are hardy to zone 6 for sase.LOL.Jody

(Zone 7a)

Jody, Roses are pretty easy. They'll root in soil. Dip the ends in rooting powder and place in soil. Keep them moist and spritz occasionally. Never ever pull to see if they have roots. You'll know when they have roots because they will begin to grow. Hopes this helps!

Jody, I have a small variety of roses, about ten, and would be more than happy to send some cuttings to you for postage. You would have to do the research on whether they would do well in your zone, but that should not be hard.

For a list of the roses, go to www.packrat-pro.com/plants.htm and at the top of the page is a link to the listing of roses I have. Let me know if you would like any of them in the spring.

ladyannne,
When did they last bloom?I thought they were supposed to be started then.I don't know just what I read.I really would love a few of all of them.I really want the yellow rose.Heck I'll be happy with any or all.I have 43 acres so room isn't a problem.LOL.Just tell me when and how much to send. Thanks,Jody

We just started our first frosts this week, so the roses I cut for the Turkey table were basically the last, although there are a few stragglers out there now. The roses will rest (unless I keep cutting and trimming, which I won't do) until spring. Then they go bonkers until fall again.

The only yellow I have is the Chicago Peace, I assume you mean that one? I am supposed to be finding a way to pick up 150 potted roses (not a duplicate among them) from my mother, so someday, I will more than I will know what to do with, so keep me in mind.

I can send hardwood cuttings now, but they won't be as easy as softwood cuttings in the spring because they are basically starting to rest. My knowledge of roses is growing every day even though I have grown them all my life, so I could be wrong here, easily.

Wow Lucky you!!!! 150 that's incredible.I can hardy wait until you know their names. I have a truck but your a 1000 miles away or I'd be glad to help you with your new roses.LOL.Please let me know when your taking cutting. Thanks so much for offering them to me.Jody

JodyC,

I am sooo glad you started this thread!

Several years back I bought myself a single tropicana rose while grocery shopping. I put it in a bud vase, gave it plenty of water and set it in a filter sunlight area. Shortly there after I had to leave on business and never gave it a thought. To my shock and delight it was not only still alive when I cam back, it had started to grow roots!

Unfortunately I made the fatal mistake of adding water straight from the tap, as it was U>very/U> low on water. The next day the cutting started to die.

I have close to 100 hibiscus cuttings rooting in various coke bottles. I can see they're about to get some rose neighbors... ;->

Thanks, again!!

Donna, a friend of mine buys a Hocus Pocus cut rose regularly, and we have never been able to get any of the cuttings to grow. Wondering about straight water....never tried that with a rose. I can get any Pristine cutting to grow, but darn it if Dolly Parton won't do it. Mr Lincoln is tough but doable.
