First frost

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

BJ -- beautiful pix! What an interesting pattern your frost had!

Now, if only I could find some time to get outside and cut it all back! Ugh -- next week between baking cookies and breads, that's where I'll be!

Thank you all again! And, another lovely, blessed evening to you all!!!

Such special shots -- they inspired my creative juices! Wonder if you could use powdered sugar or cornstarch to create a frosty look on a Christmas flower display; the paint stuff never convinces?
Anyway, enjoyed the pictures.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Polly...if the flowers are live, I think the sugar or corn starch would dissolve whan they got moist from the moisture of the flowers.
There really is no way of duplicating mother nature I don't think!! Good luck though! Let us know how you make out!

I would try granulated sugar before the other two. It takes much longer to melt -- you can use it as a facial and/or body scrub, and where salt melts quickly, sugar takes much longer. Its worth a try. nd, the granulated has the "sparkle" like the real thing.

Will have fun trying -- good idea about the granulated.

Please post photos for us to see, Polly!

Just made me think...chefs do that with fruit arrangements for centerpieces, etc. Am trying to remember what to coat the fruit with first to make the sugar stick...

Gretchen, they were lovely frost pictures. We have not seen the sun this year!!!!!!!!!!!! The weatherman predicted snow and it did try to snow all day but too warm the tiny flakes melted when they touched something. I guess I will have to take the kaliedescope part out of my garden kaliedescope pretty soon. I wanted to look through it and see how the plant material would look with a light snow but hasn't happened yet. Gretchen you frosted flowers would have been beautiful to look at through the kaliedscope. We have had a couple of mornings with temp. 18 or 19 degrees, but the ground isn't frozen yet. Hope things slow down for you soon. Donna

Donna -- thank you! Probably not until after Christmas if I'm realistic! I have never been this far behind. I still haven't even purchased Christmas cards...they're usually mailed by now LOL! I have to get with the program... At least the gift shopping is finished. The kaliedescope sounds interesting -- I have a filter on my photo software that mimics one, and its fun to play with. I sure hope your weather improves soon. Gray days start to wear on me when they go on for too long!

Gretchen,
That would make a beautiful Christmas card. If it is too late this year, what about next?

Beautiful pictures....what a pretty sight for such a destructive thing.....

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Gretchen...I love your kalidescope ! What program are you using to make it? It mades a lovely photo, as does your original frost photos!
Is there no end to your creativity!! Just wonderful!
Where do you live in TX? I have never been there, but I would love to meet you someday.

Terrie -- yes, I think its too late this year. In fact, if I don't hurry up and get cards, not one is going to hear from me this year. I've just had too many irons in the fire.

Margie -- the program is Microsoft Digital Image Pro -- the old version. After trying a number of photo programs I found that I liked this one best by far, mostly for its ease of use. That first photo though is totally un-retouched or edited. The camera just takes beautifully exposed images.

I would love it as wallpaper for my bathroom!

Thanks Gretchen...I see that the camera takes beautiful pictures...the camera and you!

Beautiful photographs Gretchen.

GeeMan:

A frost is that thing we last had on Christmas Day in 1989 LOL. Do you remember that day? It was 32 degrees in Miami and FPL went into overload because everyone turned on their heat at the same time. LOL

Some of the kalidescopes would look really cool as dyed material for quilts.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Brugie -- they definitely remind me of quilts.

Polly -- I think it might drive you crazy after al while!!!

Thank you Delecie and Margie, its a fun program and a great camera -- I'm just the holder :)

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)
