I noticed that a few people mentioned their pets in reference to the snow. I would love to see pictures of your animals if you're willing to share. I really enjoyed the pictures on one of the other forums. I think it was a contest where people were asked to send in the funniest or cutest pictures of their pets. I realize this isn't the pet formum and perhaps you've already done this but maybe you could indulge me. I'll start off with a picture I took last night of my dog Harley. He loves to snuggle into the quilt I have on my couch and keep me company when I'm on the computer.
Thanks, Sandy

He looks like a real sweetie. My cat's pictures are in my journal, along with the two that I raised for my son.

Great thread Sandy.....smilin' here admiring everyone's babies! Will have to capture my menagerie one of these days.
So nice to see you Donna....you're a lovely looking lady and your smile matches your cyber personality!
Thanks so much for sharing your pictures. I was trying to respond a few hours ago but the forum was so slow. Do you find that as well sometimes? I think it must be because there are so many people on here trying to look at pictures and post pictures, etc.
Animals are such wonderful company. I bet Kayla and Buddy are just like Harley. It doesn't matter what the weather is like, rainy, snowy, whatever...you put your coat on and he's right there ready to go even though he doesn't really like the rain. He loves playing in the snow like Kayla. I haven't had a dog since I was a teenager so I'm really enjoying him.
I love cats and we've always had at least one. The cat I have now, Ozzie, is like yours Brenda. She was a stray that I took in 3 1/2 years ago. She must have been abused too because she's not a very friendly or trusting cat. My parents are afraid to pet her because they never know if she's going to let them or take a swipe at them. She's very jealous of me and goes after the dog if she wants me all to herself. I don't think I've ever seen a Devon Rex cat Donna but they both look really sweet. Cats are funny aren't they. On the one hand they act so independent but they always want to be somewhere close so they can see what you're doing. Here's a picture of Ozzie...I wouldn't want her to feel jealous.
Sandy, what a beautifully marked tabby, Ozzie is. Just lovely. Ah yes, cats have minds of their own, alright. I have always loved and owned pets, but cats have a special place in my heart.
Roselaine, what a gorgeous color, Rosey is. Looks like a lot of grooming is required, huh?
Pam, I want you to know that flattery will always get you somewhere, especially with a 56 (soon to be 57, yikes!) year old chick! LOL, thank you for the kind words.
I love this thread. Still waiting for Christine's pictures of her pretty babies. And how about the rest of you? Let's see those pets?
One of my first posts when I joined Dave's was to the Pets forum. It's great to see everyone's animal companions. Check out the picture below and see if you can spot my garden assistant Kirby. If you want a better look, here is the link to my post on the other forum:

don't seem to have any digitals of the other girls will have to take some
great shot durtcom
Lynn, you have cool names for your pets. Cappers is very pretty, and I just love the name of your calico cat. Minou, I gotta remember that. You are lucky your Minou lets kids carry her around. My two go running and hide at the slightest hint of a human under 4 feet tall! Oh, and what a beauty your Timber is? I love horses. Used to own a Morab years ago, and my daughter owned an AngloArab that she showed and spent many years in 4H horse club with. I developed a really bad allergy towards them at that time. Nearly died one nght after picking my daughter and her friend up at the stable. Very scary ordeal. Found out after many needles and bronchial inhalers, that that is one alergin that they cannot successfully reproduce and treat with allergy shots. The advice given to me, much to my chagrin, was "stay away from them!" Nearly broke my heart.
Oops, started typing too soon before I saw Boom Boom. Very lovely!
HeeHee, what a great photo, durtcom.

These are all gorgeous pet pics, but I'm going to have to say that Oscar really pulls my heart strings. Anna, I had a Freddie just like your Ozzie a few years back.
The Winnipeg humane society is so full of cats that they are having a sale today. $25 to adopt a cat and $75 for a kitten. Good thing it's too hard for me to get there today. Plus with my son's cats here right now, I don't have room to isolate a cat right now. I can't stand to think of them putting those cat's down. How can anyone pick which ones get another chance and which ones have to die.

have to quit before I cry
Loved this thread! The older I get the more foolish I get about our furry friends. Great photos! Does Canada have as big a problem with strays as the US, Echoes? I think most adoption agencies in the US require adopted pets to be neutored. Is it the same there? We are very fortunate here in Seward, to have a young woman with a big heart to take care of impounded animals. She does not euthenize unless the animals are hopelessly ill or injured. Also, she will not adopt out pets to just anyone. You've got to pass muster to get one of her orphans. I guess that is a luxury only a small town can have.
Weez, I guess every city has this problem, better sometimes, worse at times. We have other shelters that don't euthanize but the main one here is the Humane society. Pets have to be neutered before or after adoption and you pay for that when you adopt.
$25 is a very reasonable price. We adopted our Bleu from there in 2000 and she got very sick just after we brought her home. I think they all get expose to feline flu virus in there from the overcrowding. Said I'd never get one from there again. I say lots of things.
Our two cats are from the Humane Society as well as one dog. One cat had been a show cat but the owners left it outside in -40F weather overnight. Didn't like the frozen ear look so dumped her at the society. Vets always give us a dirty look when they first see her.....I'm very quick now to point out that we adopted her that way and would point to our other cat (now deceased) and whose ears were still intact.
You made me recollect a very sad memory and one that haunts me to this day. We had a DSH that we got as a kitten from the SPCA in Edmonton. She was an older kitten when we got her and a stray. She never ever lost her "wandering ways", always had to be free to roam and on some ocassions had us crazy with worry. When she was about 3 or 4 years old, she was whinning to go out on one of Edmonton's notorious -30 evenings. I let her out with intentions of letting her back in in just a few minutes. Famous last intentions... you guessed it, I forgot. We were getting ready for bed a couple hours later and thank God I had to go back into the kitchen for something, and there on the ledge of the kitchen window was Checkers with the most desperate look in her eyes, I have ever seen in an animal. I nearly died. I ran and got her in and ran into the bedroom with her crying and distraught to my husband. Her ears were hard! I'll never forget it. Didn't know what to do. It was 10:00 pm at night. She wanted to go and hide, so we let her spend the night on the basement couch by herself. She always did that when she wasn't feeling well. I am sure it was a very painful night for her. The next morning we ran her to the Vet's and I remember those disapproving eyes too, Pam, from the Vet. There wasn't anything anyone could do. The damage was done. She did survive it but lost half of one of her ears. It is something I will never forget or forgive myself for and still makes me cry when I think about it (or type about it). Checkers is no longer with us, but I hope when we meet at the Rainbow Bridge, that she can tell me that she forgives me for that horrible mistake.
Donna... wishing now that I had never remembered again. :'-(
Mistakes happen Donna....I just couldn't forgive the previous owners who were so quick to get rid of a cat with such a lovely personality.
Great pictures! I'm really enjoying this. I love hearing happy ending stories about animals. It breaks my heart seeing the animals at the SPCA. I'd love to take them all home. I don't think they're allowed to euthenize animals in BC unless they have to for medical reasons. Spaying and neutering is part of the price of adopting here as well. They have a good program here to promote adoptions. Every week there is a program on the local channel that shows many of the animals that are up for adoption.
Oscar is a real love. If you sit down on the couch he puts his head in your lap. Jeanne do you have a picture of Molly?
I like horses but I must admit I'm a bit scared of them, probably because I was kicked by one when I was little. Of course they know when you're scared of them. My sister lives in Saskatchewan on a big ranch. The last time I was there they had to go seaching on horseback for some sheep. My sister put me on the most gentle horse but even it tried to wipe me off against every tree we came to.LOL
Oh Donna, I feel for you! I would have been beside myself as well. I don't think you have to wait till the Rainbow Bridge to know that she forgives you!
((((((Donna & Checkers))))))))
On a lighter note now, I wanted to tell you brugcrazy, that Oscar resembles the look my DH had on his face when I told him I was making Sweet Potatoes with marshmallow topping for supper last night. LOL
LOLOLOL ;)
Thanks Shannon. :-)
LOLOL :-D
Woops look at that, time to go home... ;-) Another day's sanity saved by "DG breaks". Thanks all, C U tonight.
Donna, you touched my heart with your story. Poor Checkers - I had no idea that only a few hours would cause damage that severe. A neighbour of my mother's learned the hard way not to leave her kitten out all night ... but only a few hours, albiet incredibly cold, but still, you can't blame yourself for that, it was a mistake. But we always beat ourselves up if our actions cause pain to our pets. I nipped Lupin with scissors (very minor, but it drew blood) once trying to cut a matt out - I blubbered over it, and beat myself up over that for weeks - and it was her fault for squirming!! I have never used scissors on a matt since. Forgive yourself Donna, Checkers had a full life after the accident and likely forgot about it within days.
Christine
It's obvious that you love and, I'm sure, spoil your pets rotten so there's no way she wouldn't have forgiven you Donna.
I'm taking Harley on Saturday to get his picture taken with Santa again this year. A couple of the pet stores do this every year to raise money for the SPCA. I was thinking that it would be fun to share Christmas photos of our pets when the time comes. Here's the only one I could get last year with him wearing the lovely hat I bought him. :-)
Thanks for the kind words, Christine. No it doesn't take long to freeze a cats' ears, particularly when it was in the -30's that night. Barn cats at least know ro get out of the cold and curl up to stay warm, expecailly their extremities, but a house cat just doesn't have that experience.
Your Harley is such a sweetheart Sandy. I wish we had Santa photo opportunities here, but I think we'd have to travel to Nelson or Penticton to get them taken. Cute idea for a good cause!

This is such a great thread, Sandy. Thanks for starting it. Nice touch with the Canadian Gardening mag behind Harley, too. ;-)
I love seeing everyone's kitties, puppies & horsies...they're all so neat. Elaine, that's a great patchwork quilt that fluffy Rosey is lying on. And still on backgrounds, that's a great carpet under Oscar too, Jeanne!
Good to see Lily & Lupin again, Christine. Looks like Lupin's none the worse for wear...how did her mom hold up? :-)
Here's our #1 cat, Franklin, whom we adopted in Edmonton after his family moved away without him >:-( Their loss, our wonderful gain.
