Please pray for my husband today!

Syracuse, NY

i like all you gals comments but it could work the other way. i do not let my wife use the lawnmower in the back yard she will run over anything. she tells my garden friens if anything happens to me they have 30 minutes to get to my house before she lawnmows everything down. Bob ps you should see my friends chopping at the bit. Bob

drummat I have a daughter that way, she says all we need is a lawn, no weeding, and no planting expenses, sure didn't get that from me.

Oh God Bob, your wife is my husband. His great sadness at my death would soon be overcome witht sheer joy as he killed every brug in sight!

*LOL* kell I doubt that very much, heck what would he do the next year

BJ, you are special, I LOVE old plants and old homesteads. When they are plowed under, as you well know, there is no way to get them back, history dies, what a shame. Not many care, but, like you, they are dear to my heart. I do hope the watering can you threw at the hubby was plastic, LOL!! Your homestead story reminded me of the 90 year old plants that were lost during an odd drought we had a few years ago. Heartbreaking, but who knew watering would make it worse. Oh, well...

Uh Bob,make sure you give your wife my phone #.......
LOL,its only 20 minutes to get there so I'll make her deadline....but I'll need 5 minutes to hook the trailer up...
making my list now so I can grab the stuff quick....

you're not alone Bob! I've had a growing feeling since joining DG that I was severely outnumbered but it's the same on the block. The only time you see most men out is when the wife has left a laundry-list and/or ultimatum. Except the guy on the corner with the typical grass fetish.

My DW - grouches because she can't park in the garage ( pots, soils, fertilizers, secret elixirs, power equip, tools, etc., have priority!). On a rare occaision she'll offer to help rather than complain because I went outside at dawn and it's after dark and I'm still outside. I usually regret it if I give her even a busy task. This summer I caved in and explained how to cut iris back to a fan shape. I cringed and went elsewhere. I came back to find them chopped to the ground with some of the rhizomes scraped as well. She's a pretty good vegetable picker but I've got to keep her out of the fruit trees. Grab and yank in the apples takes the entire spur!

So I'm atypical. Catch grief for having yet more books, or mags, or cuttings and seedlings growing inside in the winter and more grass going away in the summer, making so much noise each fall when I start carting home bags and bags of leafs for shredding and there's always the moaning over the temporary aroma that lingers in the yard when I add fish emulsion to the fertilizer or drag home some bags of grass clippings that are a little ripe.
blaine (the neighborhood men glare and their wives like tours)

8ftbed, your garage sounds identical to my back garage. It's 24 X 42 and filled to the hilt with plants, fertilizers, potting soil etc. Thank goodness we have a 24 X 36 garage onto the house and there's just barely enough room to park the car and truck in it. LOL

If it was only bigger! It's my office. Got my glass fronted mini-frig that keeps beer 1/2 degree above freezing... I mean for stratifying seeds that require it. The smoking lamp is lit and a 5 cd stereo is hooked up with about 15 speakers I've picked out of the trash or extracted from old stereos and t.v.s being tossed. Life is good

I must be really lucky. Russ knows how hard I have tried with my Brugs, and he's really good about them. Of course, I only had 5 this last year, for him to carry upstairs. Next year will be a whole 'nother story. But he is sweet about the garden stuff. If he doesn't know what something is, he will have me come and look at it to tell him whether it is a weed or not. He is slowly getting used to the names of different flowers, and what their leaves look like, so that he knows better. But at least he tries. I could never do these Brugs without him - especially with the spinal problems I am having.

I'm sorry to hear of your health Karrie and will send prayers. Good on Russ for helping you and he knows that means a lot. It's so hard to find a way to please the wife. Since he's picking up names now, just watch. It's fun to watch them walking someone around the yard and they're quick to point out the plants they know the names of.
