Sherry -- I have 300 babies with more on the way, and they are EVERYWHERE LOL! I have a few flats out in the GH. They aren't under lights but should be. All the rest are in the house and under lights. I soak the seeds for 24 hours, then just before planting in pre-treated rockwool, I change their water and do a 5-10 minute soak in a 10% chlorox bath. The one's under lights are growing like CRAZY!!!
Help please
Gosh, Gretchen, I cannot imagine so many babies, with more on the way. My collection is tiny, but I do have plans to expand, to maybe, 50 or so, which will be double what I have now. Of course that depends on how many seeds sprout. I'm following your lead and using the domed, tinfoil, loaf pans, rather than round because they fit my windows sills better. Thanks Gretchen, I'm most impressed with your success and your willingness help newbies!!!!
300 babies?!?!?!?!? Are you gonna be the garden world's most beloved Santa this year? What are you gonna DO with so many brugs?! If you're keeping them, you must have the worls' largest garden! LOL
What kind of bulbs are in yoru grow lights? Anything special? I'm going to try to rig something up that DH won't object to LOL

Well...I'm growing out special seeds for some very special hybridizers. And, I do have a very large yard. And, no...they're not gifts for others, just hopefully will be nice healthly plants with beautiful blooms for these lovely ladies. And, If I'm really blessed, maybe some will be blooming in time for my niece's wedding in June. An outdoor, formal affair with a pink theme.
I have been using the plant/aquarium fluorescent tubes. I think I'm going to switch to just cool white ones when these are next replaced though. For seedlings, I think those would work fine.
Kaufman, thanks for the info on lights!
And finges crossed your babies behave and bloom in time for your neice's wedding....what a gorgeous display that would bed with brug blooms hanging gracefully all over the garden at the wedding!

Thanks so much, Julie! It would be lovely. Haven't mentioned it to the Bride and will not. If we have blooms, her mother will just use them as the centerpiece of large, decorative planters, underplanted with other bloomers. If there are none blooming, she'll just use the large planters with whatever the underplanting would've been. But hopefully... considering I had lots of blooms last June :)
