I finally got my HG bloom!

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Thank you, David!!! Ok, finally may be pushing it a little bit, since I got it as a rooted cutting last fall. I know that lots of people have kept it for more than a year before seeing a bloom, but it kept on putting on buds & dropping them, so it's felt like a long time! Now I'm torn, I want to rip it up to get the pollen & put some on it, but the only other bud just fell off today. If I tear it up, I might not ever see another one. On the other hand, if I don't tear it up, I might not ever get another chance! Decisions, decisions!!

You are one lucky gal. I've had mine 4 yrs. have never seen it bloom, saw lots of buds............fall!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

What a pretty color, & bloom!

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Wow, Ronna, it must like you! Good gal :!
I say, take the pollen and put it on something that stays, lol!

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

I've read so much that they don't like to be moved, don't like to be repotted, etc. I put it in a 5 gallon pot early in the summer, and put it in a place where it would be partly shaded by bigger plants, and never moved it all summer. It dropped bud after bud after bud, but this one stayed on. I was so afraid that it would fall when I moved everything to the basement, I didn't get my hopes up until it started getting color on it. The other bud was almost ready to split when it fell off today.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Wow! I never got a Y,that sure is a good looking bloom.

Hawesville, KY(Zone 6a)

Wow that's sooo pretty

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You are now a member of the elite club! Congrats! Mine keep falling off! Sure is a pretty flower.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Way to go Ronna! It's such a pretty color. I didn't bring my HG in this winter. Mine never even got buds- LOL... I had it for two years.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Congratulations Ronna!! I let mine go, it is history!!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Cool!! Congratulations!!!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Congrats Ronna. She's beautiful.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Congrats, Ronna.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Thanks, y'all! I bit the bullet & dissected it today, the 'may never see another one' thought won out. It had anthers with pollen on some of them, but no stigma.

Congratulations, Ronna! Very nice! It almost looks like this plant does not want to reproduce.

Dat, mine is a piece of yours from last winter. It has made probably 50 buds. I have 5 left. Still hoping.......

Thank you for letting me try it.

Kay

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh BOO!! Ronna. No fair!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

How awesome
I'm just holding on to mine to see if it EVER opens a bloom
All my buds have fallen off

Pretty sure I don't want to use it for breeding
I mean,do I want to use a brug which has this much trouble blooming? What if the bud dropping trait is passed on.....
The color is awesome but ,heck, Creamsickle gets almost the same color at times so it would be a better choice I think,I blooms easy and is easy to grow

So I keep it as a challenge.......kind of stupid on my part ....

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

oooooh noooooo, you must have wanted that pollen REALLY bad.

OK, I've got a Butterfly getting ready to open in the gh, nothing else blooming or even close. If I wanted to keep the BF pollen, how would I do it. Is there a 'primer' somewhere on harvesting pollen?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Don't forget Double Peach. A pretty good bloomer, the blooms last, and she smells awesome.

I love Creamsickle, it blooms easily, smells wonderful, and has rooted easily for me so far. I don't have Double Peach, but it looks terrific! I didn't have high hopes for HG, but had to keep watching it, since it kept on making buds. I have 3 anthers that definitely have pollen, and another one that might. I'll put some on Ecuador Pink, not sure what else to use it on.

Linda, you don't usually have to dissect a flower to get the pollen. I did this time because it was a triple flower with both of the inner skirts stuffed up inside the outer one. I started out trying to gently unstuff it, but it didn't work, so I finally just went for it! Normally you can tip the flower up, stick tweezers inside and pull out each anther one at a time.

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Brugie!! That double peach is gorgeous

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

My double peach bloomed in the GH but I missed it
Found the dried up flowers...
really want to see the next flush

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Blaine. It smells great too. Gosh Karyn, it's too bad you missed this one. She smells so good and is pretty darned flashy too.

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Ronna, that is certianly a pretty one, worth waiting for.
Brugie that looks more orange than peach. When ya cutting THAT one back??? I'd like to trade my right arm. LOL!

Congrats Ronna . . very few of us have seen this one bloom. I just disposed of mine several weeks ago after 3 years. I would get buds but they would all fall of time and time again.

I think the Double Peach is a very pretty flower and it does perform well as Shirley said.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Congratulations!

Since my HG NEVER bloomed in 2 yrs either, I cut that Brug back! I mean I really cut it back!! Now it's about 1ft. above the soil line. Next step....compost here it comes!!!

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I have to say I was impressed by the 3 blooms I saw on mine last week. All 3 skirts dropped and they all had great color and I have only been growing it for 2 years come March.
I did have pollen in all the blooms but that was the only reproductive parts that fully developed in any of them.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

After reading this thread I'm sure glad I didn't get the winning bid on eBay for the HG (Herrenhauser Garten ).

Brugie I love the color on your Double Peach. Do you still have it?

Judy

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

Wow.. that double peach is Great!! beautiful! The HG was nice also but all that work seems daunting

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Oh, Ronna, bless your heart, what a disappointment, but, you got a beautiful bloom and a beautiful photo, I hope she blooms again for you really soon, she is sooooo pretty, I love the color and shape...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Judy, I still have it. She has some pretty nasty looking leaves right now, but many of my brugs are rather torn up from winds.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Very pretty !! I finally got blooms off mine last year, so I decided to give it another try this year.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

What beatifull colors on those blooms, I am enviouse.

Doris

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Very pretty photo and flower.

Mc Call Creek, MS

I finally got two gorgeous flowers on HG last fall, and have another just about to open.....probably tomorrow. If you have the time and patience, it's worth the wait.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Wow!!! Way to go Kay! Please send a photo and good luckl!!!

Mc Call Creek, MS

Dang! She bloomed while I was out of town and I didn't get to see it! The two I got last fall WERE worth all the waiting.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Congrats Kay. Hope it blooms again soon so you can see them
