No brugs...but a new camera

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I just love your last one Gretchen! Is that cropped? How many MP do you have there? Is that totally on auto?

I sure hope my camera gets here today so I have all weekend to play with it. Though I must say, I usually get frustrated with most new gadgets at first. If it weren't for my Tom, I would be in a perpetual tizz.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

are those fluffy things floating down ,seed from another plant?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That looks like an asclepias that went to seed?? What great pictures. I can't believe how good the detail is.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Oh wow!!! Those are great quality!!! How much fun you will have next spring and summer!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I wonder if you have to do something special to get the background to fuzz out.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Yes, Brugie's right -- its an asclepias (butterfly weed) that's gone to seed. And, yes the fuzzy things are attached to the seed. Don't ever open a dried pod in the house LOL -- they go everywhere!!!

You don't have to do anything to make the background go out of focus. Its set on automatic, aperature priority. the f-stop is 2.8 which is why there is limited depth of field (fuzy background). I really love it!

I took this one early this morning. Cut these back about six months ago...they don't want to leave me!

Congrats on your new digi-cam Gretchen....your pictures look really great!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thanks Pam...can't compare to yours, though :)

Kell -- I forgot to answer your question...yes it is lightly cropped because the the left hand side had a wee bit of DH's truck in it, which of course did nothing for the picture, and its only 3.2mp. Imagine what your 7.1 is gonna look like!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I want a new camera too. I've been eyeballing the 10x optical zoom models.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

That sounds very nice Sue! This one is only 3X optical and 3X digital. For what I do, its plenty. Of course when chasing birds and butterflies, the 10X would be great!

Gretchen, we have the C3000 (from 2000) and ours is really going down hill (it's taken alot of travels & abuse). Russ wants to know if you are using a tripod and the macro setting (where you see the little flower). He liked your pics.

We can't even see out of the diopter anymore - all fuzzied up, but we can still use the LCD screen. Can't wait to get another one, SOMEDAY!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

I'm sorry to hear that yours is failing! My D-400 took tons of abuse and is still going strong. Am planning on passing it on to another family member for hopefully more use and enjoyment. This one has been well used, and traveled all over the world in the past few years with my Dad, but he is meticulous (as am I) about the care of his "stuff", and this camera still looks brand new. I hope it still has a few good years left, and maybe by the time its days are through, the really high mp cameras will be more affordable. Its amazing how much they drop in price as a new model is introduced!

I think our's has been to too many sandy beaches (Oregon coast it's first year, at the lake place many times each summer - probably got some sand in it - just how fishing reels do too, if you aren't very very careful. We've also taken many many pics - the ones I take of my flowers are nothing compared to the many wasted pics taken of our cat (by the kids) and the many many wonderful family pics we've taken. The kids have their own digitals now (dad got tired of spending money developing film on the cat). Of course, he didn't get them expensive ones, but it's helped alot - and they don't mess with ours anymore.

After seeing all these beautiful pictures and all the camera talk, I decided to try mine out that I got about 8 months ago. This spring and summer I just did not have the incentive and just could not get into picture taking. I went out this morning and decided to try mine out on the macro mode. It is very sensitive and any movement causes the lens to adjust but it does have a stabilizer within it and therefore it is not difficult to get a clear shot. Now I feel a little more enthused......but most of the flowers are gone . . lol

This is of a moth of some kind that is only about 1" in size. It is interesting to see all the parts of it. I must do this more often.

Thanks for the uplift!!!!

Great picture Frannie. Now you can get lots of pictures at the Thanksgiving Dinner Table.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

brug nannie, I find I always get up-lifted when I take and view photos...I especially love the close-ups and like you. see things that I never see when I am just looking at them. Actually it has made me more observant also. Now when I look at things I think of how it would look on a photo and it has made me appreciate beauty more!
Your photo is lovely! Keep up the good work!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Oh Frannie -- that's a great shot! Glad you decided to play and share with us today!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Nice macro Frannie. That skipper is very small

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Wow, Gretchen! Your photos are incredible! Such detail. Like Margie says, you notice things you wouldn't with just the eye. They are really lovely.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thank you p_f! I have the best time taking them!

Karrie -- I can only imagine. I don't believe there's such a thing as a kid-beach-water-proof camera! Glad the kids have their own now :)

Its raining and yucky here this weekend, and I'm inside with a nasty cold :(
Yesterday I snapped a few wet blooms that are still hanging around.

Awesome photo!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Beautiful photo.....there is something special about seeing raindrops on flowers.

Donna......what would we do without you and your knowledge to help us identify things. . . . . thanks!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Gretchen, I hope you're feeling better today.

I am just amazed at the detail in your photos. I agree with BrugNanny, something very special about raindrops on plants. I just love the sight of raindrops on fine foliage like Japanese Maple.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thank you so much -- finally today, I think the worst of it is behind me!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Gretchen...I have been sick with a cold since Sat. too...I am glad you are feeling better, I am too. Taking it easy and spacing out my chores for Thanksgiving...
Hope you continue to feel better and have a wonderful holiday!
I missed your posts, Margie

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thanks so much Margie! I hope you're back to 100% real soon!

After DH had his bone marrow transplant I was soooooo careful to stay well so I could take care of him. Now that he's doing well -- Thank GOD! -- I seem to have caught everything coming and going in the past couple of months, UGH! I'm going to have to be more careful and get back to carrying wet wipes...

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
