I am thinking of calling this one Petticoats

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

And guess what I found today to use to pollinate this mini double?

The perfect match! The double is GL X JN. So it has yellow in its backgound.

And guess what I found???????????????

YES, A MINI, MINI, WINNIE YELLOW! LOL LOL LOL

I must have it mismarked! I have it as a EP X JN. It must really be a GL X JN. I need to ask Monika about crossing a (GL X JN) X (GL X JN).

It is even smaller than the double!! A mini mini winnie!!

Compared to a 51/4 inch marker.

I must get Monika to look at the foliage of this mini mini winnie to see if she has ever seen anything like it. I wish she lived next door to me. I need her to help me on my journey!

The shape of the leaves remind me of an avocado tree.

They are a different shape and a different color, a different placement up a stalk and of a different feel. They are very soft and silky. You would never recognize them as a brug leaf!

Love those small ones ... you did a great job Kell. They are too cute.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Kell, I like the mini, mini, winnie bloom.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

I think the small ones are cute. KELL!!!!!!!!! WHEN DO YOU SLEEP

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

Kell, I LOVE the yellow mini!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Both are cute as heck Kell. You know how I am about the little ones. Thanks for posting. Those leaves on the first one are so pretty and the ones from the second are so unusual. Going into your brug best must be a new experience every day. Lucky you.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Adorable...I do love them too! Seems like I did hear of someone that was hybridizing mini's! Anyone know?

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Boy would I love to get into breeding mini's some day. Especially with my indoor room size restrictions.

These are so adorable kell , good job [ IMHO] lol

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Well, I'm not into hybridizing, but I sure do love the minis. Kell, those are about the cutest things I've ever seen. Are there any on the market? Seems like Larry had one he called a 'patio brug' that was being evaluated.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

My "Patio Brug" from Larry had blooms bigger than GypsyQ.
I believe he was just working on the shorter varities to keep in pots.

Kell, if you don't want to continue with the mini's PLEASE find someone that will! Have you mentioned whether they last as long as the others, or if they have good scents? I also think a bush of them would be as cute as could be, not sure how a tree would look??

Just make sure you send some 'down south' so we can see if some get color.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Hey,those leaves on the first one are to die for
LOVE THEM!!!

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Kell, I love the teeny ones! I really want small plants with tiny blooms, and want to concentrate on working for that. It's hard not to want EVERYTHING, but I know that I've seriously run out of room, and it's time to pick a direction. I would be happy to take a cutting of any little ones to work with, especially ones with color in the flowers and of course good scent (can't live without that!). I love the toothy leaves, too!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

You are just having TOO much fun!!!! And, I agree with CC -- those serrated leaves are wonderful, Kell!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

The leaves are great on that one but actually the leaves on the last one are so much cooler! I wish you all coudl see them in person!! They are so very different. Though Monika has seen such leaves before, I bet the average brugger like me hasn't!

Ronna, these definitely look better in small bushes. It is a small bush but then all the brugs in this garden are small bushes. Only one grew like a typical seedling, taller and single trunked. I have no clue why except the dirt is heavy clay if that matters.

You need to get the color in the doubles over time. I bet some of the ones I pollinated with that mini winnie yellow, will be yellow seedlings for yellow is a parent of the double too even if it turned out white. The doubles are adorable! The yellow is of interest only because it is so small. If you had a mini with small leaves, it would be a good trait to breed into the line. If you put out a request, I bet a grower would come up with one. It takes a plan and several years of plotting it all out.

I have no problem with sending you pieces of these if you really want to work on getting small ones.

Scoot, are you serious? You want to work with them too?

I know I sent GL seeds out to a lot of people last year as well as donated some to the ABADS seed bank. I wonder what happened to them! So far only Brugie has showed me any flowers from them.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Kell, I would love cuttings of any of your tiny ones, singles or doubles. I have GL, Eventide, Gypsy Queen & Antique Lace, they're all of the small flowered ones that I can think of right now. Kyle sent me cuttings of Little Moon & a very small goldtraum seedling with white flowers earlier this summer. Little Moon rooted, but the seedling didn't. The only thing that I don't like about Butterfly are the big elephant ear looking leaves, I want little leaves on little plants with adorable little flowers. How much postage should I send you?

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I would love a piece of the one with little leaves. I like different things.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

OK Ronna, so you are going to be our mini grower? I think that is so great. I have another one that has a very defined shape. It is a small standard. Send me your address and when the mood strikes me i will send them. I also need to see where the flowers are for I did pollinate them. LOL. I couldn't help myself.

I really do not have any with small leaves Linda. I will leave that up to Ronna to create! LOL

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Oh Kell she is so cute.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Thanks Kell, I'm sure going to try! I'll send you an address label & stamps, I have your address. Just don't let the mood strike you during January or February, it gets cold here!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Ronna!

I just went back and looked up my GL pods from last summer. Where did all those seeds go?

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I guess I meant narrow, the one you said reminded you of avocado, soft and silky.

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

Kell, if you are still offering cuttings - I'd love some! Even if it's just the yellow, that would be great. I love the little flowers!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

They need to be grown another year to see if they stay mini. I would abide by the 'hybridizers code'. (not begging here Kell, I know you don't have space to keep them all)

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Kell are you running out of room, I still have an empty basement, temp in the 70s

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

i always hate to say no to anyone, but......

I am willing to send some out to Ronna and Scoot for they really want to hybridize small ones so these are not lost. But these are not ready to be released to all. They have not even trialed yet. They are not named. Lets let Ronna and Scoot grow them out another year or so and see if they are worth keeping. They hopefully are but a stepping stone to something much better.

I am sending them to Ronna and Scoot to TRAIL them with the exception of expecting them to pollinate them in the hopes of getting better minis.

I may have some other seedlings I will offer to send out to to 2 people per brug to trial a little later. I have to decide if they are worth keeping and if anyone would want to.

Linda, I will email you.

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Kell,
Ronna & Scott will do a great job. Maybe someday we can all have some little cuties. It's good you are sticking to yer guns, That's the best way to keep things the way they should be.
On the "Petticote" name How about changing it to White/Pink Chiffon (what ever color it might be?
Keep up the good work .
Bj

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh thanks Bj! I need to go back down and bring my clippers!
