We're sad and frustrated this morning. Last night, Sarah and Emma attacked Sophie. I was in the bathroom when I heard her cries and their barking. Howie was in bed with all three, dozing off, and didn't see what set them off. It was very sudden, and he had to restrain both dogs from going after her more. It was terrible!
She trembled all night, terrified. They were all in the bed with us because Sophie urinated a little in the crate bedding as we coaxed her to come out to us.
We examined her more closely this morning. She has bite marks on both legs, one paw pad had a little cut, and she has bit marks on her lower mandible. She won't eat, even if I hand-feed her a piece at a time. She takes it in her mouth, but then spits it back out. You can tell her mouth hurts. She's so traumatized, her eyes just dull.
Sarah snapped at Emma a few times when she was a puppy, but it was always followed by Sarah coming over and making up after she'd asserted her dominance. But for BOTH dogs to attack Sopie like that, oh. man. Howie had to hold them back. We're just broken hearted about this. :(
I've been crying off and on all morning, just feel terrible this sweet little dog has been set so far back after coming such a long way. We're going to have to give her back to the rescue, for how can we guarantee it won't happen again? We're within their trial period of the foster-to-adopt. We just never thought this was a possibility, especially with how they've all played together and snuggled up in the crate and on the chair. I just feel terrible.
Big troubles for little Sophie
