the FarmTek catalog has propane heaters with thermostats that do not need electricity
Great deal on a new GH
That's where mine came from.
I just ordered their catologue. Thank you for turning us on to some super deals.
my GH arrived
it came in different shipments from different sources
some by UPS
the biggest box ( 900 lbs ) came Conway freight
they called to make sure i had a fork lift available - i do
i was out of town but my son was there to take delivery
Murphy's Law kicked in as usual
he ran out of propane on the forklift
but the Conway driver & my son broke down the 900 lb pallet
& unloaded the doz or so boxes by hand
2 boxes showed some damage on the corners
so the driver helped open the those 2 boxes to check for damage
some of the aluminum extrusion was dinged up a little
but it was noted on the shipping ticket & FarmTek says they will replace the damaged parts
all i have to do now is figure out which pieces i need :-)
which means laying it all out
i am not going to be able to set it up for a cpl of months
the GH is in Northern Calif. & i have to go back to So. Calif for 2 more months
but so far FarmTek has been very good to deal with
when i assemble it i will take picts
Dick
When will you get back? Aria (Maria) is in town Dec 15 -21 so I thought that we could all have a get together (not in my itty bitty GH! LOL) I have already alerted Donna....
Michelle
sounds like a fun GH raising :-)
we can raise the roof of your GH
if your place is too small we could have it in FV
we will be back in So. Calif approx the 15 or 16th on
i want to see Donna also she has some seed i want to try growing
lets pursue & develop this further
& maybe move it off this thread ?
Dick
okay you know the address
Hey, Hey, Hey,
Wait for me to come too! I'd like to visit sunny California during the emergence of winter here in the USA. Truthfully, I got my entire shipment of roughly 1400lbs of greenhouse "love". the aluminum framework/posts weighed the most, depending on how many bars you could carry at one time. If you've got a catalog, I got the Solar Star Premium Insulated greenhouse several days before Thanksgiving. I can't wait until next September to get it up and running. I've got a perimeter foundation dug up and leveled using 4" x 6" x 8' pressure treating wood for the base, with the greenhouse sitting on top of that (quite possibly in the mounting feet accessory you find and the bottom of the right page 23.
Perhaps once the polyethelyne filming wears out I'll replace it with stronger polycarbonate and go from there.
OrchidMan
we would love to have you visit
So.Calif along the coast is almost tropical
this recent cold spell is the first hard cold i remember in years
half of my Coleus are complaining & if the cold continues i may have to
bring the Orchids inside the potting shed :-)
Dick
Hi Folks,
Today is my first day joining DG's group and the forum. I am getting ready to buy my first "real" greenhouse. Way back in the 70's and 80's I had a small homestead solar one with black water-filled 55 gallon drums for heat. I ordered the FarmTek catalog this morning but I can't seem to make any sense of their online catalog.
Any opinions on their greenhouses compared to those offered by Gardener's Suppy Co or Park Seed? for example?
Thanks,
Rosemary
rose, I just recently discovered this one and entered it into the GardenWatchDog here at Daves' .
http://www.growerssolution.com/page/GS/CTGY/greenhouses
Looks like really good stuff anything from frames to kits of any size.
I like their line at the bottom of the pages
" Do not be fooled by other stores...We will not be beat on pricing..''
Scoot
do they offer a rebate if you can show a lesser price from elsewhere ?
the FarmTek 10 ft wide are less expensive then the Growers Solution 10 ft wide
Farm Tek doesn't make a 16 ft wide but their 14ft is cheaper
Growers Solution is cheaper on the 20 ft wide wide but
their 24 ft wide page doesn't work, i can't get the prices to compare
Dick
I would think they will stand behind their claim.
Give them a call , they are very courteous and helpfull.
They ( Roger Fisk) shot me a price right away when I wanted a kit in a different size.
If the prices are lower, I'd just be sure they are including the same kind of merchandise in the kit at the same quality level. I haven't looked yet, but I think I will for the sake of future needs.
scooterbug,
Thanks for the head's up link. I'm going to check it out. The more think about it the more I think a homemade one would be the way to go for me. Kits are so expensive I can't see the value since I would have to hire the labor done anyway. Thanks again.
If I decide to go home made, I think I will still buy the hoops from growers solution.
Too much work to keep the pvc hoops from dissolving the poly.
I sure have a lot to learn, but gotta start somewhere. I'm thinking about 2X4's and polycarbonate rather than hoops and plastic. Thanks.
Yeee- Haaaa, Way to go !
Scoot
would you elaborate on the PVC pipe dissolving the Polyethylene sheeting?
is it a chemical reaction of some kind ?
Dick
yup
Dick, I am jealous of your green house and I am jealous of your beautiful new home on the river. What a life. But I bet you need a second GH with in a year the rate you are going. LOL
I just came to this thread... Where are the finished pics??? LOL
Kell
yes i know i'm in trouble with too many plants :-)
i will have to check all my options, maybe park some at your place temporarily :-)
Jazzpunkin
i have had medical problems & it got delayed
but will be the project this fall when i'm all well again & need to move my tropicals inside :-)
& i will most definitely take picts of the assembly process
Dick
Oh Strevor..I am sorry.. I was just anxious to know how it went.,. I hope the medical issues are resolving (((Hug)))
LOL Dick, I have some room left on the roof. I will put your name on it.
Dick,
Good luck with the medical problems, having a greenhouse will definitely be good medicine. I know someone who has bought the Farmtek ones and is very happy with them and the company.

I just this week took delivery on the gothic 14x16 hobby GH from farmtek.......900 lbs and delivered by Conway....they called a day ahead to make sure someone would be there to unload.....I have the site prepared and ready to run water and elect lines....have it unpacked and beginning to set the corner post.......i am going to use thermal heat from 55 gal barrels like they show in farmtek's catalog, I was fortunate enough to have someone give them to me.........they list right at $50 each in the book..I needed 18 to do what I want...I plan on lining the north and south walls and using them as the base for my growing benches..I bought the tek-foil to put on the north wall and ceiling, and plan to screen the lower walls from the inside where the curtains roll up..haven't quite figured how to do that yet..but it shouldn't be too difficult.........I am going to document every step right down to the delivery truck arriving...........I researched and for the money and size I felt this was the best product..... product..........stong winds here this week will delay some....but probably will have it up before Christmas
Jackie
everyone here would love to see your picts of progress
i plan on doing the same when i get to put mine up
but plans have a way of getting set aside
