(Grin)
yep it's big enuff 12 x 24 to be a garage if need be
will have picts & assembly report soon
... i hope
Dick
LOL....ROTF....I just did the math, Dick. You could fit 6 greenhouses like mine inside that thing!! That is AWESOME!!!!
(I know that I already said that but How Cool Is That GH????)
Oh WOW, Oh WOW, Oh WOW!!!
I will be anxious to hear how assembly went and all that. I am thinking about a greenhouse myself and have just started researching it. I recently got a catalog from Farmtek. How much did yours cost you?
Strever,
I got my FarmTek in Feb. We put the frame up this past spring, held off with putting the cover on (because of Storm Season), this weekend we got the cover on with the help of friends. The cover went on much easier than getting the frame up, you will need a few people to help with both frame & cover. I got the 20X20, can't wait to get my plants moved out of my 12X14!!!! Finally I will have room to move around!!! Next step is to get my P. Gas Heater set-up. I know where I will spend winter days. I am sure you will enjoy yours.
Congrats!
Honeybee~Bonnie
Awesome!
GH envy here...
Daisy you may raise plants in my GH any time you run out of room :-)
Rylaff you will recognize the pict in the catalog you just got look on page 348
Bonnie i think it was a comment by you some time back about how happy you were with yours
that made me check into FarmTek
(Grin) it sure is going to be worth the wait for a nice one ......... i hope (Grin)
Dick
this will be the southern view from the GH
I want to BE a plant in that greenhouse! Check out that view! lol
Wow, that is some view!!!! I am envious.
I will look up that one in the catalog. I am so lost about what I need. Is there some place that will help me figure out exactly what I need? I live in North Florida, so I get alot of sun and a little bit of winter. I want to stretch out my growing season and start seeds in the winter.
Rylaff
first - how many sq ft do you need ?
then multiply that times 3 or 4 :-)
you are in a little bit colder winter zone then i am (9b)
so just how warm do you need to stay for the short period ?
will determine just how much trouble you goto for insulation & heating
i almost went to the dbl wall air blown like the one Bonnie is doing
but my wife wanted a prettier GH in our river view
& my GH will be in the view from the deck :-)
Daisy the guest room is the first room left up those steps - anytime your in the area
Dick
I'm with Daisy and Rylaff, what a gorgeous view. Please be sure and post again when you get your GH assembled. I'm with your wife, too, I want a pretty GH. One of these days.
Brenda
Strever,
Bromom (Cindy) helped me make make my decision, she was so happy with hers.
Cindy walked me through every step. I did make one mistake, I ordered a heater from FarmTek not realizing it did not have a thermostat. So I am buying another P. Gas Heater.
rylaff, I met you at the Fl. Round-Up in April. We are in the same zone 8B (Ms. Coast). The GH should be fine for you too. I love the roll-up sides, zipper doors and the heavy Tarp covering, the clear plastic on my smaller GH is a pain!
Honeybee~Bonnie
Dear Strever
Just to add that greenhouse will look divine sitting on your property and to say sorry, you were right about the Brookings greenhouse; it is on 101 . Best! r. ivory
Wow, that's a beaut! What sort of skin does it have?
thanks Agrinerd
it is 6mm twin wall polycarbonate
i hope it lives up to my wife's requirements
she gets picky :-)
Dick
Yeah, right. Blame it all on poor Dee.
:-P
michelle
you can't believe the one she wants
http://www.sturdi-built.com/dixon_tropic_greenhouse.htm
which may happen, if she doesn't like the looks of the Farm-tek

But it sure is pretty and would match the surroundings.........
The sturdi-bilt sure is pretty, but the farmtek looks way more functional. In the greenhouse managemnt courses I took, the farmtek house just about matches the commercial "dreamhouse" that we had to design. I bet you'll have healthier plants with what you've got.
Please remember when you buy a greenhouse kit or components, it helps others if you'll leave feedback in the Watchdog.
Here's Farmtek's entry: http://davesgarden.com/gwd/c/3546/
and here's the list of all greenhouse vendors we're aware of: http://davesgarden.com/gwd/advanced.php?category=60
If you bought online or by catalog from someone we don't have listed, please let us know or add them yourself ;o)
I just found this company.
Good prices on buying the frame only
they also sell everything else.
Anyone know about them. I'm thinking of getting a frame from them.

We just finished putting up a solar star hoop gh from FarmTek. Yeah, I really wanted a gothic, but budget wise, I decided to go with the hoop. I got the double wall inflation, and my heater did come with a thermostat, and it has corrugated plastic end walls with a real door, which I love! It also has the roll-up sides which I think will be wonderful for the southern summers we have. It will let out a lot more heat and it's very easy to use. It also came with a ventilation fan with thermostat and opposite end wall vent. We just sit in it sometimes, like every morning DH goes out to sit and then sometimes in the evenings we do too.
gingerlily,
I now wish I had gotten the Hoop. I am happy with what I got, just so much
wasted space in the peak of the Gothic.
We also love to just sit in ours. DH has already planted some peppers inside in the ground & I am starting some tomatoes for him. DH is already complaining that I have to many pot plants in the GH!!
Honeybee~Bonnie
WOW
Terry you give a link for Farmtek & it gets a negative the same day ???
do you know if you posted before or after the negative posting ?
i have been reading only good things about FarmTek for months now
& i ordered the GH from them because of what i have been reading in the forums
Bonnie & Cindy i think Terry is asking you to put your ratings up for Farmtek even if it is a neutral
i don't have anything to say about them yet except that the people have been extremely helpful on the phone so far
Dick
Dick, I actually saw the negative comment when I went to get the link to post here. (Of all the luck, huh?) I was actually MORE surprised that there hadn't been any comments before now, than to see a negative. (Don't get me wrong - a negative comment is certainly not a trivial or pleasant matter, but what I mean is that so many people have discussed FarmTek, I assumed it would have several ratings already.)
Yes, anyone who has purchased from them (or any other GH vendor) is welcome and encouraged to leave feedback. What you know helps others!
Terry,
I just add my comment to the "Watch Dog".
Sorry, it just never crossed my mind.
Honeybee~Bonnie
Hey Gang!
I just got the Solar Star Greenhouse kit (gable version) from Farm-tek delivered last week. Haven't put it up yet,-- probably next July (2005) or so. I plan on growing/raising orchids in it. Overall, the delivery went very well. The order was close to 1400lbs----mostly the aluminum framing bars. Some of the boxes (maybe 10" by 8" or so, nothing overly huge) were heavy-about 20-25 lbs-- due to carrying screws and nuts/bolts and the metal clamps with which to attach the aluminum frame bars together. Overall I was VERY pleased (so far) with the delivery aspect of the greenhouse and the kit itself. I'm kinda skeptical that the 30,000 BTU heater (propane) and the additional 30,000BTU heater (natural gas) will do well to heat the 18' W x 24' L x 10'H unit I purchased. I only plan on using the natural gas heater, but the propane one came with the advertised kit (no substitutions allowed). I'm planning on picking up a 75,000 (or 100k) BTU unit somewhere in the next few months --perhaps after Christmas, as the 2 small children would rather have some toys under the tree instead of a Modine power-vented 100,000 BTU heater. At least Elmo sings!
They must have packed yours different than mine. I had to borrow a forklift to unload one box (640 lbs) we got and some others were 50-100 lbs. You sure you got it all? It took several deliveries to get it all here. FedEx freight, FedEx ground, UPS ground all delivered here, some of them several times. And let me warn you (hope the same people weren't working shipping that sent mine) I got a lot of stuff that didn't belong with the kit. Here we are trying to figure out what to do with some of this stuff, and finally call customer service and we're not even suppose to have that. Have you got the end walls yet? That was certainly over 25 lbs. and huge the way it is packaged.
Mine came in one 900# package too!! That is why we had the GH delivered to friends Construction site, no way we could get it off the truck without a Forklift. I worried myself sick trying to come up with a way for the truck to get to the HWY near
our house & us to be able to get it home from there!! I finally gave up & had my friend take delivery. Just glad it is here & up. I also got the P 30,000 BTU, but did not even think of asking about the thermostat, so we are looking for a other heater now.
Honeybee~Bonnie
Honibee, You can buy a in line thermostat that plugs in between your heater and the electric outlet.
We used these for awhile in our new horse barn before all the wiring was finished.
We used it on a HUGE electric , ceiling mounted , heater.
Any big hardware store or farm supply store should have one.
We also used a inline humidistat , which was pretty nifty. Set the % of humidity you want and it automatically turned on the exaust fans .
Scooter,
Will that kind of thermostat work on a Propane Gas Heater with no electric???
We have not had time to wire or run the water pipes to the GH yet. Life seems to get in the way of most of our time off lately. Seems the more plans we make the less gets done!!!
Thanks Honeybee~Bonnie
No it will not work w/o electrickery.
I assumed it would be hooked up . You have to ignite it by hand ? Add it has no blower either ?
Boy, this old dog still ain't too old to learn sumpin new ... lol
The heater that came with mine has some kind of thermostat on it (no electricity) cause it shuts off when it reaches a certain temp. But then, they sent two more thermostats that do have to have electricity, one for the exhaust fan and one for the intake shutter I guess, or maybe it's to be used on the heater too, so you can set it where you want it. Need to check on that. Honeybee, what is the model # on your heater?
That's something . They can shut off without electrikery , hmmmmmm , too bad they can't turn the contraption on too.
I would take it either way if I had a GH
:~)
It does come back on, Scooter.
What powers it ?
DH says it's a standard thermostat for a heater. It has some kind of tube with something in it that when it heats to a certain temp it shuts the heater off, then when it cools below a certain temp, it turns the heater back on. He thinks it makes something move to create the on/off action. Check with your local propane company to get a exact explanation of how it works. You do have to initially turn the heater on to low, medium, or high to start this action.
