London Plane Tree

This is a photo of the lovely peeling bark of my Platnus acerfolia, London Plane Tree. It has been in my garden 4 years, and I think when i bought it it was probably 4 years old. Donna

I really like trees that have peeling bark.

I've been looking at getting a Sycamore/Planetree.
Have you ever noticed a difference between the London Plane tree like yours (Platanus acerifolia), and the American Plane tree (Platanus occidentalis) ?

My own thoughts are that the American is more pyramydal and upright, while the London has heavier side branching.
I think the London also peels in thicker sections than the American, which seems to peel in little chips.

Just wondering if anyone else has made this comparison, or if it was just me seeing a limited number of specimens.
Of the two, I think I like the London Plane tree better.

Lego, I have only seen the one I have in my yard so can't comment on the difference. Mine is growing fairly straight up, but is young yet. Thankyou all for your interest. Donna
