Our zones are about the same, would you say that beauty berry is invasive for you? I'm debating whether I should plant some or not.

No, I personally wouldn't describe Callicarpa as invasive, although I had seen a posting from GA which indicated that it was invasive. There are many species of plants that are called 'Beautyberry' or even 'Coralberry'. Some are potentially invasive, others the more ornamental landscape plants are not. Unfortunately this genus suffers from 'common-name-itis'. There are four different species of Callicarpa that we grow - americana, bodnieri, dichotoma and japonica. Then you get into the hybrids, confused yet?? LOL And then there are the Symphoricarpos that some people often confuse with Beautyberry - actually they are Coral Berry or Snowberry even. Seriously though, the Callicarpas are beautiful shrubs and make an excellent addition to the shrub border. None of ours have proven to be invasive. Use of latin names is very important in this huge group of plants to determine if one type is 'invasive' or not. Some of our favorites for the landscape are: Callicarpa dichotoma 'Issai' (Purple Beautyberry), Callicarpa japonica 'Leucocarpa' (Japanese Beautyberry with white fruit). Hope this information helps :)
