Big Yella is sure yella this week!

I had cut this allee tree way down in the beginning of the summer, in stages over a couple of weeks. I was going to get rid of it because it was taking up way too much space. I had cut the canopy down to nothing. I was going to take down the trunk down the next week when my greens garbage was empty! But then I had pangs of guilt and decided it was so much smaller it would no longer take up so much room.

Here he is this morning!

edited to say this is just the top of it!! It is an allee tree so there is about 5 ft of just trunks! A main tree and a few suckers.

The branches remind me of when I was little and my friends dad would trim their tree with the straight silver tinsel done in sheets piece by shimmering piece down each branch. But there, it is buds hanging in sheets from each branch.

Some branches are just so congested with buds! In a few days the open blooms will be a tangle.

I tried to get a close up of the a few branches dripping with buds and blooms.

What is not to love?

Gosh Kell, I'm so sorry. I wish I could send you some blooms so you wouldn't be so bloom deprived. LOL! Awesome brug.

I agree with Brugie. If I only had your problem :) What an awsome brug kell. I can't believe all the blooms stacked up together. Does it have any fragrance??

This one has always been such a good bloomer for you year after year. . I don't know how you could part with it. I wish just continue trimming it like you do to maintain size. It is as pretty as ever.

Hoe could you even think of getting rid of that? Its beautiful!!!

The reason I need to get rid of it is that it is taking up about 1/3 of my seedling garden. Of course all my seedlings in there are 2 years old now and all are so overgrown it is ridiculous. And I do not seem to be able to toss any of them!

I have another one of these planted in my front yard, I have 2 tall ones in huge pots in my courtyard and a new 8 foot allee one I am rooting.

The first picture on this thread shows it from the side yard of my house. This picture is taken from the backyard so it is behind a lot of other brugs. I cut all the suckers off and left 1 trunk and a small canopy in the beginning of the summer. It has sent out tall suckers again and it is just too huge. 20 people could stand under it. You can't even see the sky when you are standing under it.

My seedling garden which is now a garden of giants.

Can I be your 'greens garbage' person?

Betty, alley trees to my eye are much prettier. Less messy. Especially if you are one of Monika's! LOL. For me allee ( I am trying to switch over to sound more elegantly European) trees are easier to manage. Well, not Big Yella planted in the garden, he is too aggressive. But most are I have found. Well that is not true.. My Rosamond is huge and out of control also. In fact now that I think about it, evey brug I have planted in the ground has gotten out of control in one way or another. LOL

Anyway, they can be clipped to stay neat with a nice sized canopy. I can underplant which is important to me for I have many different plant lusts. Bush brugs from above the Y take up way too much ground room. In a small garden they overwhelm it.

It is small Kareoke. Way too small. I am moving to Dick's yard. He has 5 acres in zone 9. Sounds like an offer I can't refuse! And he will add blue skies to all my pictures free!

Who's Dick? I have a small partly shady yard too. So I garden at my community center, at archives where I volunteer, at work, and at a historical house, lol. Of course, I look for things that take care of themselves a lot. At least the ones away from home.

LOL Kell...wonder how long it will take for this move? I know Dick will welcome you with open arms!

woodspirit - I'm very new, but I will attempt to 'splain - an alley tree is one that has only one trunk (not to be confused with plants that grow on a short trunk, such as a 'rose tree') and, that trunk is generally much taller than a 'rose tree', such as the one I started this summer that is 7 1/2+ and they get much taller, such as Kell and Monika grow. Kell started one this summer that I believe was in the 13-14 feet tall (did I mention that I am green with envy??!!), I cannot wait to see how she does with it. The alley trees have beautiful canopies, some very large and wide and other plants can be planted under the alley trees. Monika puts her alley trees in the ground each summer, in large plastic pots with holes for the roots to grow and that is what I will do with my tree next summer. I cut an almost 8 foot shoot and rooted it just like any other cutting, except that it's pot has doorknob holes in the pot. I was absolutely amazed that it worked and my unknown tree (that we affectionally call Long Tall Sally) has already put on lots of buds, but the wind blew all but one away. I might not have all the info straight, but someone will come along and correct me if I'm off a bit. Hope this helps and I hope you will try an alley tree!!!!!

I just sent out 3 boxes with it in this last Wednesday. 2 of them didn't even ask for it but I added it to fill the box. Tthe 3rd had wanted it for awhile and probably had given up on getting it so he will be shocked! LOL!

In fact, I cut down a big potted one to get the cuttings. I happen to have about 8 feet of trunk left to cut up. Or I have about a thousand branches to cut on if one prefers an above the Y piece.

So Earthling, if you find sucking up distasteful, go take a pretty picture of your sky!
