I am looking for your opinions on this one. I really like the pictures I have found on these plants and want to plant some seeds but I'm having a hard time making a choice. If someone put a gun to my head and said make your choice now; I would have to say I'm leaning toward the Red Buckeye.
Which is the best Aesculus?
Possum, lots of choices for Aesculus, with white, red and pink blooms. We have had Aesculus pavia (Red Buckeye) growing for years and I have to say it's one of my favorites. Although.... a nice specimen of Aesculus parviflora (white blooms) is stunning in full bloom. I still remember years ago travelling through Boston and seeing one in bloom in May, had a hard time driving through traffic at 60+mph and still trying to get a glimpse of the tree! We also have Aesculus x carnea (O'Neill's Red) which has the most beautiful pink blooms. Although it looks rather ragged in late summer/fall, the spring blooms make it worth growing. Another x carnea cultivar is Fort McNair.
Thanks for your insite rcn48.
