picturelady, I went to our TOPS store, they told me to use a spray called Bug Stop, said it would not hurt the plants, I used it, and when I was ready to plant new seedlings I actualy put some dirt in a bucket, and sprayed the dirt, and mixed it up, so far a week later and no nats,
I did open a bag of Magic Earth two days ago in my gararge, and was amazed at how many nats were on the cabinet the next morning, so I am spraying the whole bag, a bucket at a time.

Gnats in the GH...any ideas?
kareoke, do you have more info on the Bug Stop? Like the manufacturer or any other identifying details. I would love to try this product but need more details. We do not have a TOPS where we live. In fact, I've never heard of it. The product you bought sounds really great and I would like to try it.
Thank you,
JesseK
Just an idea for those of you having trouble finding the mosquito dunks, or getting them to dissolve. There is a powder called DiPel Dust (comes in a bag that looks like Sevin Dust), it's BT in powdered form. I use it to control China Marker moths in my ponds, where I sprinkle it on the surface of the water, and lily pads. It dissolves quite easily in water. It doesn't harm plants, or pets, 100% organic.

Today I added some yellow sticky papers to my GH brugs...it seems like I am already seeing a reduction in numbers of gnats flying around. The cider vinegar has captured some and hope that this paper catches even more.
Does anyone know how long the mosquito donuts stay good in the water? I have some soaking and now don't need them yet.
At least there are many things out there to treat them with....if one thing doesn't work, you can try another.
I think the backing says 3 to 4 months it is efffective. I t is meant to be in pools.
kareoke, i was in Lowe's tonight and saw all of the Bug Stop products. Can you tell me which kind you bought? Was it aerosol, liquid, etc? It seems that you are having good luck with this product and I would like to try it. I am still really new at plants and would appreciate any info that you have.
Thank you,
JesseK
The mosquito dunks and crumbles work a long time, I've used them for several years with good results and no danger to animals/wildlife. I sprinkle them in my flower pots three or four times during the growing season, more if necessary...
JessiK, it is in a Green spray can, says Spectacide, Bug Stop, up to 8 week control, it lists all kinds of insects including gnats, I also lightly spry the walls of my mini greenhouse
kareoke, thanks for the info. i think i will get some and try it tomorrow.
thank you,
JesseK
Just an up-date on my gnat problem...yesterday it seemed like there were so many more gnats even with seeing quite afew on the yellow sticky paper...
I am only watering when a plant looks droopy and then with the water with the mosquito donut in it after standing at least 24 hours.
Today, thank God, I can see a decrease in gnats...plus I added a few more dishes of cider vinegar with soap. I forgot to put the soap in the cider yesterday and I think the gnats thought I was feeding them because there were none caught in the dishes! No way! Today I added some liq. dish soap to all of the dishes!

I just got a beneficial nematode that is supposed to work wonders on fungal gnats. It's Steinernema feltiae and goes by the name "Scanmask". You use it as a top dressing or mix it in with the potting soil. The one pint container says it will treat sumthin like 1050 3-inch pots! It just came in the mail today so I haven't used it yet.

I have gnats both in the house and the greenhouse now. I've used gnatrol and misquito dunks in the past with so-so results. It does an okay job but never seems to get them all and the stuff is kinda expensive to keep buying more & more. I figured I'd give this stuff a try and see how it does.
And Brugie... it says this stuff takes care of cucumber beetles too ;o)
Thanks Sue. I'm going to get the gnatrol out and use it before I start having a problem. If my gnatrol doesn't get the few gnats that I have right now, I may have to order from PlanetNatural. I don't think I could afford the nematodes for cucumber beetles. LOL! I have three acres.
What does a cucumber beetle look like???
Sherry, they come spotted or striped. Here are some pictures. http://images.google.com/images?q=cucumber%20beetle&hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&sa=N&tab=wi
You know, I think I've asked that question before, thinking that I had them, but I didn't. I never thought about googling for photos. Thanks, Shirley!!!
You're welcome.
