Canadian Roundup Plotting and Planning Time

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

Thanks girl that sounds like a great idea for a silent or noisy auction not to mention it will be fun to see what everyone brings. Speaking of which, is it within bounds to possibly bring a great gardener along who is not a DG member due to lack of internet access??

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

They welcome all and sundry south of the border at RUs ... the more the merrier!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Donna, thanks for the "you go girl" pic. DG's one of the things that keeps me going in the right direction...I wish I'd found it years ago! :-) Yumiko put it well when she said it's become her warm, healing place. Wonder where Yumiko is...hope everything's ok.

Yorkton, Canada(Zone 3b)

I have sporadically lurked in over the past few months, and am hoping to rectify that over the up and coming winter season. I've taken alot of digital photos that I'm anxious to share and as soon as I figure how to do that, look out. I think its awesome that everyone is getting together and will then be able to put a face to the writings. I unfortunately will be unable to attend this time, but should this become a annual event.... 2006 here I come.
Debbie

Nice that you came out of the shadows Dema. Sometimes it is annoying, when you realize all the members who are reading and being entertained by the ones who post, but never bother to pop in and say 'Hi, I'm here too.' If nobody ever wrote anything, there would be nothing to lurk at. EVERYBODY is welcome here.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Hi Dema,

Nice to hear from you. Where are you from and what do you grow in your garden?

Hi Dema, welcome, too bad you can't come for the 2005 Canadian round up. I think it's going to be a blast. Just putting people to names, will be worth it.

Linda in Victoria

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Hi Dema,
Where are you? From your zone, either in the Yukon or prairies????
Looking forward to some of your pictures - as long as they are lilies, iris or dogs, not necessarily in that order. lol
Inanda

Nanaimo, BC(Zone 7a)

Hello everyone.
Shannon sent me a e-mail, adn i just found out about this round up in Victoria.
May I come?
I definitely would love to join one of the days to see you all.

Yumiko

Yumiko, you have been away from us for too long. We were all wondering if you were alright. Nice to hear from you and I'm sure you will be very welcome at the roundup.

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

glad you are back yumiko we have missed you and will be looking forward to meeting to in April (and sharing mushroom secrets). Glad to have you as a poster rather than lurker debbie

Yorkton, Canada(Zone 3b)

Thank You all for the welcome, your right Inanda a Saskatchewan prairie girl I am, and in answer to your question I grow all 3 of the above. I actually attempt to grow a little bit of everything, a Heinz 57 garden you might say. I've included tropicals this year which was fine during the summer months, but presently overwhelming, as my house has become quite green inside. Hubby said no room for a Christmas tree and really not necessary, just garland up a brug or something.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Neat Dema,

You must be the nearest DGer to us (us = Echoes & Inanda)

Do you belong to either of the SK. Lily societies?? I know you don't belong to NLIS or CZ. (NLIS = Northern Lights Iris Soc. CZ=coldzonegardens)

There are quite a few SK people on CZ.

Looking forward to your pix.

Ginny

Pickering, ON(Zone 5b)

We had our first dusting of snow this morning here in Pickering Ontario......Ice almost covered the top of my small pond.....Winter will be here very soon and we didn't even have summer .....I would like to join you all in April if I am able to get the time off......That's if it is ok with all of you

Anna

Yes we did have a nice little dusting of snow this morning in Pickering - it annoyed my cats as it would melt once it hit the ground - they thought these cool little poofy toys were dropping out of the sky...lol.

Of course you're welcome to join us in Victoria in April Anna!!! The more the merrier!! You are Canadian!!!

Who's organizing this shindig anyway???? I keep losing track....lol.

Another person's coming!! Yay!!

Christine

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

It would be great to have you join us Anna. Sorry about the snow, although it is inevitable isn't it? We are lucky enough to still be green, but I don't know for how much longer. It's supposed to turn colder this week and the temps are dipping down to freezing by Wednesday. Your right, winter is not far off now.

Pickering, ON(Zone 5b)

No cats to play with the snow, but my dogs sure do like the cooler weather. They were both outside with me trying to catch the leaves as I was raking them.

Anna

Pickering, ON(Zone 5b)

I was telling a friend of mine about DG web site and she told me to ask you gals from BC about " Banana Slugs "..... She has just returned from a visiting her daughter in BC, that's were she saw them...

Anna

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Gosh, I've never heard of them or seen any different looking slugs here than from my Alberta Gardening days, (,have only lived in BC for 2 years) but I live in the Southern Interior. Where did your friend visit? Northern BC or Lower Mainland? Sounds kinda yukky though. I'd like to see a picture of one...I think...

Pickering, ON(Zone 5b)

As I undertsnad it the " Banana Slug " is as long and as thick as a banana, hence the name... I will call her and find out where in BC she was visiting...

Anna

Pickering, ON(Zone 5b)

Saw the Banana Slugs in the Vancouver area....

Anna

Don't think I'd like to see one of those critters ........ call me squeemish, I don't care ........... just sounds way too big to even be icky.... more like shuddery....yuck.

Christine

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Yikes, I'm with Christine. That sounds a little too much like a snake to me! Let's see if any of our west coast ladies can tell us any more about them. :(

Banana slugs are all over the coast. They are either greeny yellow with black or there are some really ugly black ones. I think they are totally disgusting. They can be as large as 6 or so inches long. I've never seen them anywhere else in Canada but here.

It is been a while to come to DG.
Lilipon, are you the one who made plan for this gathering ?
Thank you so much for your great idea and work.
It is nice to see each ID and name together.

About Brugmansia queen Monika's book, I would love to have one.
Is it in German? Does brugcrazy still have books?
Sorry, I am kind of slow to catch up all topics.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

How nice for you Ingrid! LOL

Yumiko,

Yes, I have Monika's books to distribute in Canada. I will bring one for you. They are in German with a separate booklet which is the English translation. If you want one earlier, email me.

Nanaimo, BC(Zone 7a)

brugcrazy,
Thanks! I will wait till April.

I just ate big supper.
Now I need to do major diet before I see you guys.
Where do I start?

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

LOL, Yumiko! I was just thinking the same thing...maybe I shouldn't have eaten those two bowls of ice cream tonight...:-)

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Even if I started now, I'd still be a good size, so don't worry about what you look like. So long as we're here to enjoy and learn... remember beauty comes from under the skin. (says I that has to take big doses of prednisone, I won't ever be a 'average' size again)

This will be a time to meet, greet, enjoy the spring, and hey, tour lots of gardens, get plants, and what ever.

Linda

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Very good reminder Linda; thanks. It was just in jest anyway, but you're right, it's always good to counteract society's nutty ideas about our size. I'm SO looking forward to this RU!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I popped in to update the post at the top.......it's a bit busy in my corner of the prairie. DM dislocated her wrist and, in her confusion after surgery, removed the fiberglass cast and dislocated it again.....now looking at more surgery as well as a metal plate. We were also at the farm and emptying the house/buildings since DF is thinking of selling it. Amazing how many farmer's pop out of the woodwork, and get in the way, when coffee row starts talking.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Sounds like you have been pretty busy alright, Pam. So sorry to hear about your Mom's wrist...ouch! Poor thing!

Linda, you make me crazy when you start talking abou the RU. Can't wait!

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Geez Pam, you sure have more than enough on your plate. email coming your way.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

email coming back your way Linda. :)

Yep sometimes life gets really interesting.

Pam, sorry to hear this about your Mom. This past year, with the fire and all has taken a lot out of your family. Sure hope you get a break soon.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Thanks echoes so do we. ;)

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Everything comes at once sometimes, doesn't it?

Take care,
Shannon
