Canadian Roundup Plotting and Planning Time
I'am interested...
Ingrid
Welcome aboard! :D
Pam, would your DD becomeing to any of the garden tours or events that get planned? Just wondering for numbers sakes. She's more than welcome as far as I'm concerned.
Linda
Give me an idea of what we're looking at and I'll let you know. Most will prob be fine as long as she gets dropped off at one Mall while we're there. ;)
I imagine we'll be 'doing' Butchart's gardens, Gov't house, Abkhazi gardens (sp) and checking out the nurseries. I'm hoping that we'll have time at the horticultural centre as well. I'm hoping that we'll have social time. I can offer our place for a communal dinner. BBQ is something I'm pretty good at. My partner Cheryl is a good cook as well. (I guess I'm out to you all now)
Anything else that is on people's 'must do' list?
Linda
Prolly put her name down for anything/everything except garden lectures....thanks Linda!
All those suggestions sound just great. BTW, good for you Linda - I'm behind you 100%.
Thanks for the offer of a place for a communal dinner! We'd better have social time....that's one of the main reasons for going....lol Whatever happened to the Crystal Gardens, are they still there? I think Ginny (inanda) asked about them too...maybe that's already been answered.
What's everyone's sense of accommodations....should we be tenting it?
Are we ready to get in touch with aknapp, for the Roundup thread?
I wouldn't be tenting it, too cool for these bones. We've got 3 double beds (2 of them are hide-a beds) and a single plus a couch for those on a shoe string budget.
Crystal Gardens was closed the end of summer, with much opposition, including candlelight vigils. The PCC (provincial capital commision) said it was losing too much money. There was lots raised, but the decision had been made, and there was no more further discussion. It's being made over into a mutlimedia venue for tourism. The plants are being housed at the horticultural society until they can go back to the refurbished building, and most of the animals have gone to the states. The local Butterfly gardens offered to take the animals, and that would save the cost of shipping them to the states, but no again, the deal was made, and no further talk allowed. You can probably guess which side of the fence I was on. It's a huge loss for the city, and for tourism. The building was originaly built by 'Rattenbury" who also built the BC Legislature (sp).
Looking forward to meeting eveyone.
Linda

Not that I'm sure that I'm even going to be able to come, but I don't think we've heard from Broots yet. She might be interested. She's away, and I sure can't speak for her. Maybe there are others that will come out of the woodwork.
Looks like we all have four months to find, capture, coerce or create a garden slave to look after seedlings for or 6 days while away. An ad in the personals do you think??
It's just a sin, what happened to the Gardens. Boy.
Thanks Jeanne, consider yourself booked. I think there's a few of us that are crazy about brugs too. You know I am. I hope you are feeling better. It's always good to get home again.
Linda
That sounds terrific Jeanne. For a newly addicted Brug addict, nothing could be finer! Thanks.
Can I come? I can stay with my sister in Surrey and take her along!
Always glad to have a neighbour from the south - you are just a permanent snow bird anyway right.
LOL......it will be great to see you there Laura!
oh, goody, goody! I'm a-planning..... and I probably am a permanent snowbird - dh wants me to switch citizenships but I don't think I ever will. :)
Welcome aboard, Laura! It'll be nice to meet you.
Iowa's coming too.....................yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Elaine
Anyone hear from Yumiko lately?
I was wondering the same thing...
I sure am interested in that book!
I have Monika's book, and totally agree that it really is a must for anyone growing brugmansias.
Linda
I'd love one, please. :D
Thank you, brugcrazy, I would also like a copy of Monica's book, Linda kindly let me have a look at hers and I agree it is definitely worth having.
Heather
And we'll have to wait for Broots to come back to us.
If we pushed it one more day and left on April 6, we could go to VHS meeting on April 5
Ginny
Ginny, the Victoria Lily society ish aving a lily sale at the VHS tomorrow. Which lily were you looking for? I'll go and look for you.
Linda
Oh my!
adding - What are you going to get?

Oh good heavens. Pardelinum is what I've been looking for... Don't know if you'll see this before you go.
Let us know what you bought. They usually bring in wonderful bulbs from Judith Freeman. I haven't been visiting their site often enough, obviously.
Thanks tons for letting me know.
Inanda
Once this moves to the RU forum, should we invite anyone from across the border? Am sure there are other DGers on some of the gulf islands? Just a thought?
Shannon, how is your course going? Sounds interesting.
Ginny
Ginny, it's going great; thanks for asking. Although, our Botany mid-term last Monday evening was somewhat harder than I expected!! It's a really intensive course. I'm glad I'm taking it at the same time as something soothing like Landscape Graphics. After Christmas it'll be Botany II, and Soils & Fertilizers. The program is very enjoyable, but taking it in the evenings at the same time as working full-time demands a greater degree of personal organization than I'd been accustomed to!...lol
In Botany II we'll be using microscopes. I'm planning to bring a cat hair in (heck, I'll just look down at my sweater and choose one), and put it under the microscope to see just what causes them to weave themselves in & out of the fibres of all my clothing! :-)
Shannon
LOL, no, there is never a shortage of "hairs" on kitty owners clothing, is there? But at least we can say that we take a little bit of our babies every where with us! :D
My hat is off to ya, Shannon. That's quite a load you are carrying...working & school and still you manage to visit DG when you can.
Shannon, let us know the result of your kitty hair. Take a dog hair too if you have one. Maybe the hairs have tiny hooks like velcro hooks.
Just had a thought re Victoria Roundup. Why don't we each bring something for a silent auction with proceeds to the Garden Angel fund. Just a thought. Something little.
Ginny
What's the garden angel fund?

Here's a thread on it.
