Someone made me very sad!

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

Dear Kell, I just saw this post, and have such a horrible feeling in my gut, I am so very sorry for you and all your hard work. have you considered notifying your local Newspaper??? I'm sure they would post something like this, and maybe, just maybe a Mom, Neighbor, friend has seen your Brugs at someone's house, a teacher even maybe, never know, may be worth a try!!!!! And the Police should know about this if in fact teenagers are using them to get high, who knows if they were seen by someone!!!!
Thinking of you, and wishing I had some to give you, Annie

Medicine Hat, AB(Zone 3a)

That makes me so mad to see such mindless destruction. I have a good idea how you feel as our truck was stolen from our farmyard and destroyed last month. Here is what it looked like when the police found it.

And the inside. Police figure they used a ballpean hammer inside.

Such hate - and where on earth does it come from?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

I am happy to hear your best Brug of the bunch is still with you. I see that as a sign of hope. I'm wishing next year to be your best year ever to make up for this year's end of the season.

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Kell, I am so sorry to read about this! I know that you will still be rewarded for this years efforts though with a gorgeous, fragrant, dark double pink seedling!!!!!
Hugs,
Lani

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Kell you are such a trouper to come through this with your sense of humor in tact! I'm glad your pretty pink made it. :) With that description you gave of the flower, I am thinking you need to name it after one of those naked statues. LOL

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Kell, I think Annie's comment about the local paper is worth some consideration. If the newspaper would use your photos and an article relating to the wanton vandalism in the neighborhood perhaps someone,a parent or peer would have some information on the culprits.Your loss is irreplacable .I wish there was something I could do besides offering my sympathy and condolences.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Kell, if I had some newer brugs I would seen you some, but you are way ahead of me. I'm so sorry. Sometimes when bad things happen, it also brings out the best in others.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Bluegrass, thanks for the thought! Everyone is so kind. Songbird, what a horrible thing to have happend to you. It pains me to see such destruction done just for destruction sake.

Please do not feel so sad for me. I have so many seedlings! I am growing them in 3 places. My whole world since last November has revolved around these seedlings. Since we get no rain here from about April to October, my life also was spent watering! LOL.

Last night I went down again to the site. I am now dreading that they will come back and finish off the ones left standing! I hold my breath till I see they are OK. I still have lots of buds that I am praying will bloom soon! And I salvaged lots of tops which will bloom early next season and give me and hopefully all of you a thrill to see so early!

Oh Ponditis, I sure hope! LOL

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

Kell, I hope you will post in Newspaper so the people who did this to you will think twice about doing again to you or someone else!!! It may help others, thinking of you, Annie

RICHMOND, VA(Zone 7b)

This is the saddest thread! Are there any deer around?; They make a bed in the center of a planting (my shaded fern plantings for one), and really break them down. I wonder if they could have sampled a brug leaf or two and became crazed.
I hate to think it was vandals!

Medicine Hat, AB(Zone 3a)

Thanks, Kell. I wouldn't worry about the vandals coming back, that party's over. If that is their mindset they'll be looking for something fresh to vandalize rather than something they've already had a go at.

Des Moines, IA(Zone 5a)

Kell, Sorry to
hear about your
brugs, but you
might think
twice about
putting anything
in the newspaper
about the damage
because that
might draw a lot
more to your
brugs!

Someone put a
artical in the
newspaper about
a light bulb
they had burning
for 27 years &
when they put the
artical in the
paper someone
broke out the
bulb.

You have to
watch what you
put in the
newspaper because
sometimes it is
like a magnut.!!
Jerry.

Kell, I am so Sorry to hear this terriable news.........I just don't have words to express my sorrow........... 8o(

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

Kell, I'm so sorry about your loss. I just keep looking at your pictures and the destruction.... The only thing I can offer for any (though granted, very minimal) sort of bright side is that they left your pots in the ground. Had this been a person out to make money on your beautiful brugs, I would think they'd be "smart" enough to just pull the whole plant out of the ground.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

That is what I was thinking too.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thank goodness they didn't! And what a mess for them if they had! Digging would have been such a production. Brugs are much easier to handle as cuttings.

Anyway, I have no clue what happened. I was down there yesterday also and it is so creepy. I hate being there after work now for it gets dark too fast. I am trying to go before work now. It feels like when my car was brokekn into, I had the creeps knowing someone was in it that wasn't suppose to be and I felt unsafe for a while.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Kell, please be careful and take care of yourself!! It's scary thinking who ever did that might return to the scene of the crime...

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Just wanted you to know, we're sending positive thoughts your way.

Judy & Bob

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Kell you are such a wonderful and generous person. I am very saddened that anyone could have done this.

Today it seems that vandals leave nothing alone.
Take care of yourself,

Sending love and hugs your way,

Sandy

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Kell, they took the stalks cause its easier to transport
The pots with the plants would have taken too much room and been to easy to spot.
Did they take the labels?

And can you plant something surrounding them for camoflage
Sunflowers?
castor beans?

I am sick over this and I know someone is going to profit from all your hard work
And I hope the entire brug community will rally around to catch the brug napper
I know we all kid about doing this but to see it done is sickening
I think everyone should be on the lookout for anyone selling brugs who is a newcomer and sudden appears with awesome brugs
They will show up sooner or later......
and I am soooo sad over this

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

Don't you think the way they were torn, not cut, might not of been professional, sounds like mischevious teens to me, maybe they liked the flowers or something, nevertheless, I'm still feeling queezy over this, you feel so violated I'm sure, Better times ahead, don't let them get you down and I hope you'll rebuild, Annie

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Kell, I'm so sorry that you are having to go through this. There is no explaining the senselessness of angry teenagers bent on destruction. I have seen it many times being in the line of work that I am in. It is extremely unfortunate and sad that you have become a victim here. You should definitely carry pepper spray, mace, or a stun gun when you are alone at night. I do. Please take comfort knowing that there are many more good people than bad.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Kell,

Did you ever find out who did this?

What a shame

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Kell, I must have missed this whole thread in the beginning.
My heart goes out to you, I know just how you felt. I love my yard & plants & am so hurt when someone I trusted lets something die, while I was away. I can imagine how I'd feel looking at that destruction, & all the work & love it took to get them thus far.
It sounds to me that whoever did this knew what they were taking. You might check the papers later for people trying to sell Brugs.( Unless you see them in the ppr all the time.) Or might even ask at some of the nurseries.
Darn maddening! I hope Karma catches up with them!
Hugs, Bj

Yazoo City, MS(Zone 7b)

Kell, I am just now seeing this thread also. I am so sorry this happened to you. And I am so mad. I know you worked so very hard on these brugs and whoever did this ought to be locked up at Rieker's. I'm not very good at "turning the other cheek" any more. But I do pray that most of your beauties survive.
Yvonne

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thank you all for your concern and for caring! I have moved on. The brugs are all recovering and if they survive the winter, I will see them them bloom next spring I hope!

I have lots of new growth!

They all have new growth. Some more than others.

The rest of the brugs are incredible. I have hardly gone to look at them until this week. They have not been watered since the attack. They have gone crazy!! So much better than the ones growing in my other 2 growing fields.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Wow!

That brings to mind mine that I cut back in October -- they've gone crazy with new growth from the roots. Guess I'll just leave them alone and see what they do in the Spring.

Anyway, they sure look lush and healthy!!!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Wow, kell...what beautiful, lush foliage...and without water...makes me wonder if we are babying our brugs too much !! Mine with water and fertilizer don't look like that!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

The dirt is very heavy clay so it holds moisture. I finally recalled that the last fertilizer I used was a handful of that Bayer systemic for roses. I had seen a few mites!
