Collecting Wallflower (Cheiranthus)Seeds

Warkworth, Northumbe, United Kingdom

My flowers have finished flowering now and I would lke to know how long do I leave the seed pods to ripen before I collect the seeds. Can I cut the stalks with the seed pods on and dry them in bunches indoors? I would normally buy and sow new seed in August,
Any info would be appreciated.

When the seeds are ripe, the seed pods are almost white. The seeds are brown when they're ripe, so you may want to pick a seed pod off now and then to see how they're doing. If the seeds are yellow, you can cut them to ripen fully indoors, but if the seeds are still green, they probably won't be mature enough to be any good. I seem to recall that it takes quite a while for them to get ripe, but also that the seeds stay in the pods for ages, too.

It's now August and I have been so patient waiting for these seeds to mature and now I am collecting and saving. there is something compelling about doing this, one of those relaxing jobs with the thoughts of that lovely fragrance for next spring.
