Just old or insane?

Wilton, CA(Zone 9b)

I was just outside dividing some overgrown Mexican Sage bushes; the dog wasn't being very helpful so I put him in the house; I went right back out and now I can't find the shovel. Yes, I've looked, I've retraced my steps, and I've just sat and stared at the yard.
I now have to options: buy a new shovel; or check myself into the nearest State Mental Hospital (will anyone of you be joining me?!)
Only 53 but going nuts!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

You'll probably find my sunglasses when you find your shovel. At least I hope you do!

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

and my rake . . .

Cheri'

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

The other day I tried to put the milk in the cupboard after pouring myself a glass.

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

I do that all of the time - where's the digger, where's the watering can, where's the clippers, etc. It's a good thing that all of them are red. In the house, I have to have four pairs of scissors in order to make sure that I can find one when I need to use them.

Maybe you can "sweep" the yard with one of those big electromagnets that they use with a crane at the scrap yard. ;-)

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Let me know when you find my trowel that I used the other day. Oh and my good pruning shears.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

Maybe you laid the dog against the fence and put the shovel in the house. Stranger thinds have happened. Heheh

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Is your doggie looking out at you with an evil grin???

Long Beach, MS(Zone 8b)

Ohhhh, it is soo wonderful to know I am not the only one!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

I've promised DH I will no longer look for keyes or the checkbook as I am sure I have already spend a few years of the past 27 doing just that! I quit!! But..... I could use a little help finding my glasses!!!!! lol

Jan you got me laughing out loud.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

My grandmother used to pay me $1.00 everytime I found her glasses. 99% of the time they were on her head.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

I hear Napa State Hospital is nice this time of year. Lol. You are in good company Sac. If your sages are anything like mine-they probably swallowed it.

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

My dear, it is right by my garden scissors, that I marked with orange tape so that it would not get lost and then by the misplaced dayliles........
You are in Really good company. If folks can find everything they want to,,just how many things do they have to keep track of???/

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Karrie, I remember my grandma doing the same thing (but I didn't get paid). I've actually had my glasses on my face and thought they were elsewhere. It wasn't until I reached up to scratch and itch and felt them that I realized how distracted I'd been!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm constantly trying to push up my glasses while wearing my contacts - who's absent minded???

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

shoot i put something down and wham its gone. last night we all got in the suv. i laid down the keys in the front seat. twenty minutes later we find them under my daughters stuff. now i know where i left them but them gremlins like to play tricks.

shoot i want the aliens who take the socks out the dryer and leave the other one. i want to know do they only have one foot???

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Ahhh, yes - sock heaven! I know it well!

Seattle Burbs, WA(Zone 8b)

LOL sacvalley! I can't tell you how many pairs of pruners I've bought this summer!!

(Zone 7a)

Sometime in the '70s, the ring upon which all my keys were "organized" disappeared. Came the day sometime in the 90's when I finally got to the bottom of the compost pile...!

I wish I had the chutzpah to raid my neighbor's garage and disappear his dirtbike to the bottom of something. It certainly wouldn't fit in my usual places: face, under a car seat, refrigerator.

I think absentminded people have more serendipital experiences. Life has more mystery for us. We keep our minds sharp by looking for things. ROFL

But, a roundup just for the absentminded...hmmmmm. It wouldn't necessarily have to be at a mental hospital. Maybe we could infiltrate a bird watching group on one of its outings...

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

But would any of us remember to show up?

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

My glasses (sunglasses and reading glasses) and keys are the worst, followed by pruners. You don't really want to know how long the list is though, LOL. Glad to see I'm in good company!

Sac, I have spent an hour unsuccessfully looking for a big garden tool I was just using!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

My worst is pens - I have about 20 of them floating around. Periodically I bring more into the house and distribute them - one in every place I could possibly need them - I'm pretty sure the fur-babies take notes during the day and leave them all on the sunroom desk!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

That is one thing I do not lose-glasses. Walking into walls and other hard objects is just not my idea of a good time!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Yeah, but I bet you'd look great in black & blue! lol

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Doesn't this whole syndrome start with "shoes" when you are a child?????

Adrian, MI(Zone 5b)

I hope it's not insane, because this sounds like me. I usually remember anything really important; but it may not be until the middle of the night! Isn't it strange how you remember things when you are thinking about something else!? I am blonde, but I think age has dimmed my memory!!
I'm glad I'm with friends!!
Bonnie

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

this is NOT a direct reference to anyone else, but I have to admit that menopause has REALLY toyed with my memory and concentration (and appetite and...!)!

Wilton, CA(Zone 9b)

Exciting News!!
The Good Fairy put the shovel back in the tool shed for me!
Gnomes and Good Fairies are around here all the time, and yes Ladyblue the Good Fairies also wake me up to tell me the name of the person "I know, but don't remember" or the name of the actor in the such-and-such movie.
Take Care, Jo Ann

Lamar, AR(Zone 7a)

I always ask everyone else...

"Where have you put my shovel!"

"Who borrowed my trowel!"

"Who has used my broom!!"

And of course most of the time, It is "I" who has not returned the items to their resting place. My finacee thinks its hilarious. It's usually he who I blame! teehee

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

You're lucky he doesn't ask you where you parked it! lol!

Ripley, MS

My sister called me today and when I said hello, she said "Richard Boone" I said "what?" She said it again, "Richard Boone" I asked what about him and she said "He is the one that used to play palladan. I said "Annnndddd just why do I need to know this????? She was quiet for a minute and then started laughing, she had been trying to think of that name when she was talking to her best friend earlier, not me. We both laughed till we were crying.
Sandra

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Sandra, that's funny. No preamble, just the answer... but to the wrong person!

With my old housemate... a day or more after a question where I couldn't "find" the answer in my brain, I'd blurt out the answer. She'd never skip a beat, just say, Oh, of course! Glad someone could follow the way my mind works, or doesn't sometimes.

(Zone 7a)

This is the beauty of society among the absentminded - our intimations and glimmerings stew about in the unconscious and surface in ways that are hardly recognizable to the conscious. Multiply an individual by 2 and you get umpteen. Darius, I love the way everyone's minds work on this thread.

Gardenwife, I write a lot of things down. I can see my calendar now: Loon watching with distracted DGers the first Saturday in November at dawn on Golden Pond. Maybe we'll find one with an evil grin nesting in Sequee's socks.

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

I've looked for my glasses when they were on my face, I loose my coffee just about everyday, I have coke cans everywhere, my dh finds them, I could'nt. I go into a room and forget why!!!! I'm only 55, or was that last year, LOL LOL, those darn senior moments.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh, dear Hanna, we're twins! Only I don't have a DH. At 53 I wonder about senility...what? It gets WORSE? What I love is dashing down to the car to leave for work and realizing I'm not fully dressed - oh dear, PJ bottoms do not look good with this jacket!

Golden, CO(Zone 5b)

I've always thought the state mental hospital option doesn't sound all that bad actually. Think about it, some one else has to do the cooking and dishes, you don't have to answer the phone, the walls are padded so no more headaches beating your head against them, even a clean white long sleeved shirt (jacket?) every day, and you don't have to do the laundry. Probably once or twice a week a doctor who gets paid to listen to you rant and rave. Nobody pays any attention when I rant and rave now!

If I conceal my violent tendencies, they might let me dig in the dirt of the window box with a spoon. And if I lose the spoon there are nurses to find it for me!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

LOL

(Zone 7a)

I dunno - seems some docs are just a little too good at finding wut they're lookin fer. Give me the open air of a spacy mind any day.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Oh this is a fine thread, I'll be back to read some more if I can remember where it is. Sac, if you think of it, send my cars keys along if they turn up over there.

I usually blame my DH for missing objects, "Honey, did you use the "____" (insert scissors, can opener, clippers, pruners, marking pen, etc. He doesn't even answer me anymore, just gives me that "I don't believe I'm married to a crazy woman" look. I keep telling him that at some point in the future, he will look on these as the good old days....it's downhill from here!

Here's a funny that had me and my sister hooting and snorting.........

Two elderly sisters were confined to a nursing home, Sitting outside on a bench one day, feeding the pigeons, one turns to the other and says, "I'm so sorry dear, but I can't seem to remember who you are. Would you please tell me your name and refresh my memory?" The sister turns and stares at her for a long suspenseful moment, and replies,
"Can I get back to you on that?"
