I'm looking for quart sized pots, round and deep like 6 in deep. for rooting brugs in this winter, their small around and won't take up space in the greenhouse, someone listed some places to buy flower pots, the black ones, and I can't find that link, any body have any ideas?
kathy_ann
I know i've asked this before BUT>>>>
Check with some of your local nurseries or landscape companies....most of them just throw the pots away after use.
I get 2,5, and 20 gal pots from some of mine here.

Please tell me the address of those nurseries?
Well they are here in Seattle, so don;t think they would ship free pots to you in Pakistan Kaleem.
One of them is called Molbak's, and the other I frequent is called The West Seatte Nursery.
I would love the name of some suppliers also. I'm way out in the country and there are not any free pots to be had!!!!
Try calling some of the local nurseries. here is a link to the yahoo Yellow Pages for your area.
Hope it helps.

My local nursery will sell me small pots. I also by on line at Charley's Greenhouse Supply and Hummerts sells pots as does AMLeonard. There are any number of places to get them with a search. Here is one of the sites: http://www.amleo.com/bin/subcat.cgi?DC
Kathy:
I have bought pots from this site: http://www.growersupply.com/
and from this ebay seller: herbs-mint-4-u
http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQgotopageZ1QQsassZherbsQ2dmintQ2d4Q2duQQsosortorderZ1QQsosortpropertyZ1
and received excellent customer service from both.
KATHY,
This is probably your 'nova ... something ....
http://www.novoselenterprises.com/default.asp?j=j
I just ordered some trays and stuff from Novosel , I've done business with them in the past and really like their quick service and 25$ and over discount of 15% which usually just about pays for the shipping.
If ya order over 75$ s&h is free plus the over 25$ discount of 15% is really a good deal. I was able to get this double whammy a couple times last year.
So I'm fixed as far as plastic stuff goes for a while.

Here is an Ebay link to a seller that I have purchased the quart size from and I have also purchased the 4" clear size which I really like. I can now watch the roots develop and there is no more guessing or disturbing the plants to see how much of a root system that they have. I have used the clear plastic cups but they get knocked over too easily. The 4" are short and squatty. This is now what I root cuttings in and also transplant my small seedlings into.

I remember a post about this last spring on the "Cheaper than Dirt" forum. I took the advice of asking a landscaper and have enough pots (of all sizes) it will take me a lifetime to use them all. But I'm glad I have plenty, and can share them with others, if anyone around my area that knows me, needs some.
Thanks so much everybody for the help, i might get some now

If you need a smaller pot for your seeds and cuttings, I discovered the red plastic cups sold at Costco. They sell 200, 16 oz cups for just a few dollars. I take a sharp knife an can jab holes in the bottom in a few cups at one time.
I have planted seeds directly in them, though I usually plop my rockwool seedlings in these. They are 4 inches across and 5 inches deep. They are also great for cuttings. And so cheap, instead of sterilizing to reuse, I just toss them. I can also write the name of the brug in magic marker on the side.
I got mine from our local florist, I went there to see if I could buy them and he gave me what he was about to throw away, 2 doz.
hey that's a great idea, why didn't I think of that, LOL thanks
kathy
Kell, I guess I am just more clumsy than you because I seem to knock these over too easily. I also find it takes too much time to punch round holes in the bottom of these and with their thinness the bottom caves in when I try and push a hole through it. You said you use a knife.....do you just make slits and that is enough for the water to drain out? I have also used the small short fat ones that are about 3 1/2" across because they do not knock over easily and I used a lighter to burn a round hole in the bottom. Lol....some holes were way too big. I am know back to buying regular pots because they are so cheap for 50 of them and I just rinse them good and then put them in the dishwasher on the top shelf to sterilize them.
I just got a thought......I am now thinking about rinsing them well after they have been used and putting a bunch in the washing machine and adding bleach and using the gentle cycle. Hey......don't laugh.....it is worth a try and it sounds easy. After we had a flood here in 1979 that is what I did with all my kids pieces to their Fisher Price sets. There were hundreds and I just could not even think of sterlizing them by hand.......the washer worked!!!!! just remember it was on gentle cycle.
Frannie, you crack me up. Not a bad idea. Can't see why it wouldn't work.
When I put holes in plastic glasses, I either use an ice pick or a potato nail and heat the end. They go right through if they are hot enough.
A soldering iron works great to put holes in the plastic cups.
I have never had a problem with them falling over, Frannie. Soon they will be so close as I add more they have no where to fall! LOL I really love them and I love being able to just toss them when done. Brugs seem to love the depth of these.
I do things fast and easy! LOL. Sadly, I am a lazy person. I just take a knife and stick it up and then twist the knife once it has pierced the plastic so the slit is opened up for the water to flow out.. The plastic does not put up a fight. LOL It takes 5 minutes to do about 100 cups.
Fast, easy and cheap! The cups I am talking about. LOL
Gosh Kell, we don't have that kind here. Those have a nice wide flat bottom. Ours are all tapered. I can see why you like this kind.
Kell, I think i'm going to try this, it's too cheap, LOL got to save money some how, and I have some right in the cabinet just like these, we get them at sam's to take camping with us. thanks
kathy
I used to go from rockwool to a 6 pack. Now I go direct to these, I am just careful not to overwater. Then from this size to outside and into a 1 gallon or 2 gallon depending how strong the seedling is.
I hope you like them Kathy!!
Brugie, if you can wait, I will be going o Costco soon. And they are light so cheap to mail. When will you be potting up your seeds from their germinating pots?
I'm hoping to get them started this week or next. Probably next, so I'm in no hurry. That would be great. I'll be more than happy to send you some $$ to get them. Not sure we even have a Costco around her or in the city. Now, I'm off to the post office.
Brugie like you we don't have that store around here either, and I have searched everywhere for the kind of cups kell is using, right now I am using the clear plastic cups, you can see the roots through them and when they get full I move to a regular pot
Wow, Kell, I've never seen any cups like those. The wide bottom would be great. They won't turn over as easliy.
Kell yours do have a wider bottom. The ones I used before were the Solo cups and the bottom is smaller which makes them top heavy when there is soil in them. I have accidentally knocked over many. If I would leave my hands off of them and stop trying to rearranging them, the knocking over would have not happened. I will be on the look out for the cheaper cups with the larger bottoms. I am all for the easiest way also. There is a Cosco somewhere around here (not in Alvin) in a nearby city, I just don't remember where.
Costco nationwide http://www.costco.com/Warehouse/Location.aspx?country=United%20States just click on area u are searching. will show their location.
woohoo, I just bought l00 of these little cups at wally world , I checked the utility room and we didn't have enough for me root much so I bought more. I'm pretty sure they look like yours, they'll do.

Kell, I admire fast and easy, you are NOT a lazy person, you are a SMART person to conserve time/effort. A lazy person takes the long way, prolonging the end result. Sadly (ha), I say, I'm an instant gratification girl, which means, the easier/faster, the better and I see zero wrong, and lots to be admired, with your attitude...
