Little project grewwwwwwwwww!

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

Yes it is variegated liriope. I love it. I have it around almost every bed. I made the mistake of digging up some green liriope from an old homestead and bringing it here when I moved. I'm still trying to get rid of it. The variegated is much more behaved. I keep kidding my DH that the variegated will be our cash crop one of these days.

Here's another section of the previous bed.

Bump

I thought I'd bump this back up so we can all enjoy it again :~)

Thanks Zany, I always like to look back at this thread. : )

I am glad you all enjoy my garden. We will be adding some new ones in the spring. Yvonne

Newburgh, IN(Zone 6a)

I took a picture this morning of the little snow we got overnight. We don't get much snow down here on a regular basis. You can see the neighbor's house and her garden too. We both started our shady gardens the same fall. They lost a tree last spring and that gave us more sun. I may have to move my toad lilies they seem not to like the new amount of sun. Will post more in the spring.

WOw! I just found this and I am in awe! I also did the pathway in my front yard using the mold 2 years ago. I'm still working on the beds the paths border. I'm envious of your hostas! I'm so far south, mine will never get that big. Thanks for sharing all your hard work.

Newburgh, IN(Zone 6a)

Thanks Lussah, I have been outside working to much an did not see that you had posted. Thanks again.

Gorgeous gardens! I put in one small shade garden this weekend.... whew.... it's a lot of work. I can only imagine all the hours you have put into your gardens. They are beautiful!

Lena, MS(Zone 7b)

oh, wow, what an inspiring garden. I have been looking at old post for hours it seems. Msmaati your gardens are lovely. Your work has paid off. Not to mention inspired us all to get up and go work in ours.

Newburgh, IN(Zone 6a)

Thanks Scraps and Staceysmom, It is a lot of work but it pays off. Unlike laundry which just comes back to be done over so fast, the garden lasts the whole summer. LOL. You can tell I hate laundry. I would work outside all day long if I could. I planted some new ground cover last year and it really took off, It is called Creeping Jenny. Don't put it anywhere you cannnot contain it. The lovely light green is nice change for the shade.

I love Creeping Jenny. I bought some a couple of years ago that was labeled as an annual. To my pleasant surprise it came back the next year. I have it planted around my tulips. Love the contrast of the dark green of the tulips against the light green of the Creeping Jenny. Plus it fills in nicely once the tulips die down. I also like using it as a spiller in containers. It looks lovely where you planted it there. I am really in awe of your gardens. Had to check out all the pictures again.

I just found this thread and can I say....Love your gardens!!!

Newburgh, IN(Zone 6a)

My Creeping Jenny is fully spread. It really looks great compared to last June. Everything here in southern Indiana is about 3 weeks ahead of last year. We had a great spring. Hotter'n blue blazes today.

Garden view from the back. When I look back I can really see how much everything has filled in. Makes it all worth it. Backache and all.

Looks wonderful!!!

Thank you jen. Is your season ahead there too?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

It has been such a super weird weather pattern, here. So much rain I think plants are just bigger than they normally are, I know the weeds def are.

I had to take down a bradford pear tree next to the house that was creating my shade garden so I had to dig up all my plants and move them to the other side of the house. So that was my unexpected project.

Newburgh, IN(Zone 6a)

I know what you mean about moving plants. Our neighbors lost several trees in the ice storm and I had to move my toad lilies to a different location so they did not get sunburned. I planted a plum tree this year, in a few it will shade that area again.

Unfortunately my hubby is taking over the area, putting down pavers and making another parking and storage spot.

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

MsMaati,

Your gardens are fabulous and your impatiens look so good!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I'm so glad you brought this thread back up. Wow. You've done really great work on this - it's a lovely lush natural oasis with just the right amount of human touch thrown in.

Newburgh, IN(Zone 6a)

Thank you so much for the kudos. I have found that putting in soaker hose around and about the impatiens really boosts them. Takes less water than sprinkling too.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

And it probably keeps the leaves from spotting

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

Wow I forgot about this thread and loved looking at it all over again. Beautiful is the word! Ronna

Newburgh, IN(Zone 6a)

Thanks Ronna, everything is in full bloom now. I will have to go take some more pictures.

Newburgh, IN(Zone 6a)

Thought I would bump this up again since we have added quite a bit since 2009. Just a little at a time we are getting the landscaping that we want. This years drought really stunted the June and July growth but the recent rain boosted it back some. I am surprised that the grass is still green. Our area was in a severe drought.

It really looks great!

Thank you Ajen, I enjoy adding a new interest each year but I am running out of room. LOL Here are a few more pictures. Sorry I added same picture twice of the Bird bed. The Hosta have quite a bit of hail damage from a storm a couple of weeks ago.

Everything looks beautiful -- your yard shows how much love (and hard work) you've put into it!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Great job, lovely and well maintained gardens, relaxing sitting area, well done paths and a glorious site to behold. You've done an excellent job. It looks superb, especially some of the long distance views, MsMaati. You and hubby deserve the beauty that surrounds you. It looks better than 99.5% of the gardens I've ever seen including the professional ones. Yours looks professional without the overdone look that the major gardens have where no personality is involved.

Wow! Not a problem area anymore! I like the different levels of the raised beds. Sure looks inviting despite our hot summer.

Newburgh, IN(Zone 6a)

Thank you all so much. It is a lot of work but being retired it is a good thing to keep busy. We did the raised beds to avoid having to mow on that hill. Seems that we can mow most of the yard with a rider now but I like to push mow often to make it look nicer.

Newburgh, IN(Zone 6a)

A friend asked me to bump this up for her review. I have added more and more and will add some more photos in the spring. One thing nice about this medium is that you can continue to add to it year after year.

Lake Stevens, WA(Zone 8a)

Thanks MsMaati-I loved seeing these gardens develop over TEN years!

Newburgh, IN(Zone 6a)

Thanks MLS I really enjoy my shade garden. I think I will get a chance to walk through it today without any snow or ice. I expect that some of my plants will we lost or damaged this year which will be sad however, that means I can go shopping for new ones.
